conventional to synthetic
i was just curious about something. when i converted to synthetic, the guy poured one or two bottles of the syn. oil down through the engine and let it drain right out to kindof flush the conv. oil out. was that all that has to be done?

naw dude.....like ragtop said you can use some engine flush to clean out your engine from sludge and what not then use full synthetic on the next fill up.

When i switched I never did a flush and after smelling funny for about 20 minutes it ran fine. I think the smell had more to do with the oil I spilled on the engine than the change in the type of oil I used.

good point neckbone....the lower the mileage the less need to flush.....but if suddenly decide to change to synthetic at high mileage....a flush might be a good idea.

I dont belive in synthetic, just change you oil on time and use a decent brand. I always run Castrol GTX, never had and problems or any sort of buildup.

That said I still don't use it. Since I work at a garage I get to change mine out for free. So I dump it ever 2k miles or so. That way it has no real time to break down (which synthetic takes longer to do). All in all though if you don't have free acess to oil changes when ever you want. Then I would say run some Synthetic.

That is another reason I dump it often too. I like to make sure it also have fresh oil like the car.
