check your local laws. most states require the lens to still be reflective red in the rear for safety reasons. usually cops won't mess with you on it but if they want to be a prick they can.

Never heard that. I have seen them give people with the blackout covers a hard time due to the amount of light that comes through making the brake lights dim. That's not an issue with the tint. I know the color of the light has to be red for the brake lights when they are on.

I'm getting my tail lighst and head lights done soon as well, I live in Broward County and yes they stop you if it's completely blacked out. Smoked out is fine, but not jet black something about the red does not admit enough light and can cause collisions.

Smoked is legal. Most of the ones I've seen are advertised as DoT certified.

That's a very common misconception, DOT approved/certified does NOT mean it's legal.

Check your local laws. No one on here is going to be able to accurately answer for you if they don't check the laws for your state. In Indiana you have to have two red reflectors. That's why I tinted my tail lights they way they are.

I just tinted mine last night, I'm just hoping they aren't too dark and I get pulled over because of it. Just tint them like you want them, and if you ever get pulled over just tell the cops that's how you bought it. They'll probably just write you a fix-it ticket and you can go out and buy a used pair of lights to stick in there for less than $100

My big concern was if someone rear ended me. If I tinted my tails and someone wasn't paying attention and rear ends me, insurance could through a fit. The person could claim they couldn't see your brake/tail lights because they were tinted. Then, it's no longer the other person's fault, but your fault. Basically, I didn't want to be screwed over if some dumbass rearends my car.

Most states require that they be visible from a certain distance away. You also have to remember that we have a red reflective third brake light in these vehicles. Mine are tinted, have been for two years, and if you look at mine next to some other stock cars during the day, mine are more visible than theirs.

Oops, forgot about the headlight issues. I have the tinted headlights in my car as well. I was very scared when I bought them that I would not be able to see. I was right. Even with HID's the light output is horrible. The damn things look good as hell though. It could be that I went from stock housing with HID's in them, to tinted lense. So they just seem that much darker. I would say they are close to stock bulb/lense output right now.
