What Would An Engine Swap Cost For My Car

The hell with learning experiences...when I decide to become ASE certified then Ill worry about taking on these kinds of enormous jobs myself...Till then, about how much do you think a certified mechanic would cost to pull the engine and tranny from my 2001 Mustang GT and replace it with an 03 Cobra motor. Thats one...The other question I dont think anyone has ever asked here actually...And that is does a 5-Speed transmission bolt up to an 03/04 Cobra motor? Diferent flywheel obviously but does it fit? I hate 6-speed transmissions...They're for Chevy-heads.

5 spd will bolt right up with new flywheel; get a new clutch too... a Brand new motor will be at least 12k + labor... i'd say another 1200 -1500 for labor and tuning.

I hate short gears, especially if I was looking to conserve the clutch which I would be (I don't race). I drove a Jeep Wrangler with a 6-speed and it annoyed me.

the t 3650 (5spd) and t-56 (6spd) have very similar gears 1st though 4th.

the 3650 then has a huge jump from 4th to 5th gear the 5th in the t-56 is like a middle gear between the 2.

So no short gears to deal with unless you get some short rear end gears, but then every tranny would make the gears short.

Gear ratio's for the 3650 are 3.38 - 2.0 -1.32 - 1.0 - .67
Gear ratio's for the T56 are 2.66 - 1.78 - 1.3 - 1.0 - .8 - .63

The only big difference is first gear for the T56. 2nd - 5th in the 3650 is very similar to 2nd - 6th in the T56 minus 5th. If you want to stick with a 5 speed i would go with a tko tranny.

May i ask why you want the Cobra engine if you don't ever race? If that's the case why not keep the 2V?

Same reason people buy Lamborghinis'. They're fun to drive especially when you can hit an open road and let it out...I have nothing to prove by accelerating past somebody in traffic, thats how accidents happen.

I'm sorry I didn't realize that in traffic was the only place to race. You can still do that in a 2V.
PS - People buy Lamborginis to show you what they can afford and you can't.

Thats Ferrari. Rickety piles of tin-foil with the same V8 POS powerplant, usually reserved for doctors and investors who use it as a wife-cheating tool on the weekends. I know what you meant by 'race', and the road is what you meant...Im not a hip-hopping rice-rocket drag racer who gets off on reckless driving, not why I buy these cars. The track? I live out here on LI and theres a nice racetrack Id like to get my car out to one day for a lap or two but the cars' gotta be race-ready first, better safe than with a busted suspesion.
