OOPS
Hey guys I guess your not supposed to use an impact wrench to take off rusty manifold bolts. I was trying to take pipes off to put an x-pipe on but now I am kinda screwed cuz half of the bolt is still in the manifold. I couldn't even get the pass. side bolts off. Now I have an exhaust leak drivers side the stang, but I guess this is a good exuse to get headers.
I have an automatic though am I gonna have to go with shorties to avoid all that extra work to fit LT headers? |

l/t will fit just fine!!! youl get more power out of the l/t than you will with the shorties.

If you go through the trouble of putting headers on just go ahead and go with longtubes...

I read somewhere you had to shave the transmission housing to get the Lt's to work properly, and you also had to take the suspension out (k-member and all) to get them on. I don't think I have the mechanical experience to do that, there is a place here in Austin that quoted me 850 labor for a header install, does that sound right?

Its best to take the k-member out but it can be done without taking it out...
My recommendations is to drop the k-member...It will make life alot easier... |

yeah it will make it easier but is very doable with it still up there.

My finger is already blue and swollen from getting caught in the jack stand... they should put a warning on those things of where not to put your finger when releasing..
I have an 01 GT and the nuts on the manifolds are rusty as hell, I couldn't get them off, with a breaker bar, swivel sockets, or a impact wrench. I'm talking about the back manifold bolts, There was an x pipe on the car before I bought it they took it off at the dealership and I think they used some lock tite on the bolts or something when they put the stock exhaust back on. What does the removing of the manifolds consist of? Thanks for all your help guys! |

Soak them in PB Blaster or WD-40 and it should come off...If that does not work I can give you my recipe for "Penetrating Oil"...

Ya know its funny. My bronco is all about shorties for bottom end but my stangs need L/T for "top end power" Sometimes I forget the rules between the two. Funny thing is right now mybronco has 5.0 shorty headers on it and that is about it for exhaust.
