Check Engine Light

Okay a few weeks ago my engine light came on and when scanned read a code P0153 which means the o2 sensor signal is slow (Front Driver). I replaced the sensor and the light was off for about 100 miles then came back on. I got it scanned yesterday again and it read the same thing. I mean the sensor was a brand new Motocraft sensor so I find it hard to beleive it went bad so fast. Does anyone know what I have to do to fix this problem?

Sometimes once those signals in the ECU are tripped they will keep coming back on, that happened when mine registered an emissions leak. It kept setting and re-setting itself, going on and off throughout the winter. It turned out to be a loose CAI, even when I tightened it though it was still going on, even though the scan showed nothing. Having the code erased might help, just a thought.

I had it cleared last night and it came back on 30 miles later. IDK what it is but I'm going to try swapping the front o2 sensors and seeing if the code switches from the driver side to the passanger side (that would determine a bad sensor again). We'll see...

I have had my cats cut off and run no MIL's on my car. I pulled my codes today, and had NO codes for O2 sensors or anything lean. Im starting to think the MIL's are a waste of money for you guys that are running them.

Not meaning to jack your thread but does anyones gas cap pop the engine light? My engine light or "check gas cap" light are constantly on. It will go away for a day if I unplug the battery but comes back on the next day. The cap isnt loose and I replaced it thinking maybe the old one wasnt sealing right.

Amanda is could be a number of things.

your best bet is to get the code read at a parts store ( it should be free) and tell us the numbers.

we can help you a lot more from there

it's not really a big deal to be honest.

Possible causes:
-- Obstructed, open or cracked hoses between EVAP canister purge valve and intake manifold.
-- Damaged EVAP canister purge valve.
-- Damaged PF sensor.

Most of the EVAP system is located in the passenger side fender well. You have to remove the inner fender to access it.

This article supersedes TSB 03-9-8 to update the vehicle lines and Service Procedures.

ISSUE:
Some vehicles may exhibit a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0442, P0455, P0456, P0457 or P1442 or a "Check Fuel Cap" Lamp illuminated with DTC P0457 for the Evaporative Emission System. This may be caused by loose or leaking hoses, loose or broken fuel cap, a leak at the top of the fuel filler pipe neck, etc.

NOTE: MANY EVAP LEAKS ARE CAUSED BY A LOOSE OR FAULTY CAP. IF THE FUEL CAP IS SUSPECT DURING VISUAL INSPECTION, DO NOT DISTURB THE FUEL CAP UNTIL THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE IS COMPLETE. IF THE LEAK VERIFICATION FAILS, THE CAP CAN BE REPOSITIONED OR REPLACED AND THE TEST REPEATED. THIS ACTION WILL ISOLATE THE CAP FROM THE REST OF THE EVAP SYSTEM AS A POTENTIAL CONCERN. IF DEBRIS ON THE SEALING SURFACE OF THE CAP APPEARS TO BE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK, CLEAN THE CAP AND REINSTALL.

Mine did it once. With a Ford you can't pump the gas and leave the engine running. That's what set it off for me. As soon as the computer cycled it went away.

That usually works in most cases. And being its summer time ppl like to let the AC run while they fill up the car.

Thanks for the info ujslost. What is TSB though? The car is always off when I fill it up.

Technical Service Bulletin

It means that this problem is being reported to ford as being a constant problem and that ford has listed a way they believe should help fix the problem. You could have a leak somewhere in the EVAP system.

I will be putting on an off road xpipe on my car soon, but have not purchased my MIL Eliminators yet. So you think I might not need them? I have a 04 mustang gt.
