CAn you adjust the gas pedal?

I bought my GT about 2 months and never liked how far back the gas pedal was. Today while vacuuming i notice the gas pedal has inch or two of play, it can be pulled toward the driver seat but the throttle cable looses all tension. Can this be adjusted or can the cable be tightened?

install some washers underneath the bolts for the throttle bracket.
