Questions About Engine Swapping and Kenne Bell

Sean Hyland Motorsports has a Kenne Bell twin screw supercharger kit for the 99-04 GT, I was just wondering why they offered the kit in both intercooled and non-intercooled versions...Without the intercooler Id need an external source of cooling for the kit? Also, I'd really like to supercharge my engine without blowing it...Is it recommended I get this thing bored out or add stronger accessories like better valve covers or bigger fuel injectors? Is it true you have to use premium fuel once you do this (thats gonna suck, I just got a promotion though)...

Part two is about the engine itself...If I was able to get a substantial (and safe) increase of horsepower without ruining the car (I drive it everyday, its my only car) then Id keep the motor in and only have to worry about maintaining the small stuff cause I would'nt be upgrading it any further...When I install an overhead blower do I have to cover the exposed engine cyllinders when I remove the intake and/or valve covers? I know thw gaskets are delicate...how do I torque correctly making sure I dont damage anything? I dont have to drain the engine do I?

Finally, is my 8.8 rearend strong enough to handle a 50-85 added HP output? The way I see it I can easily get all this done in my own driveway for under $6,000 Any help is appreciated thanks.

Your gonna get alot more than 50-85hp More like 150-200HP.
The stock internals can handle about 450 RWHP But a good safe tune is very important.
And Yes You would have to use premium fuel

An intercooled kit will produce the same amount of HP with less Boost.

The kit Should come with aftermarket injectors and I don't think valve covers matter.

And If plan on racing it with sticky's then yes. But I don't think You could find enough traction on streets to break it unless Your launching at high rpm's all the time....or once!

Smart to switch to synthetic oil? Does the system (for both the fuel and oil if necessary) have to be flushed upon installation or just drained? I mean if I bolt this beast on and drive mildly to use up the rest of the regular fuel will it harm the blower? One more thing...whats a good air intake to compliment this thing? Thanks. Greg

I'd just dump some octane booster in it for the left over regular gas, switching to synthetic oil is always a good choice, and just drained for the oil.

The non-intercooled KB is a 6 PSI kit, which KB says is good for about 350 rwhp (over 400 flywheel HP), which is about 125 rwhp gain (assuming you're stock). The intercooled KB is a 9 PSI kit, which KB says is good for about 430 rwhp which damn neer doubled your output for a solid 200 rwhp gain (over 500 flywheel HP). This kit is intercooled because as boost goes up, so does temp. You won't need an external cooling source if you get the 6 PSI kit, and the 9 PSI kit comes with one, so just use whatever comes with what you order. It all depends on how much power you want. As far as the engine being able to handle that much power, the rods are rated at 450 rwhp (about 530 flywheel HP). Those power ratings are also for a manual, if you have an auto, KB says you can expact about another 6% (I think) lose in power at the wheels, but your flywheel HP will remain the same..

Sounds great thanks guys I think instead of replacing the whole motor this is what Im gonna do...I actually for a while thought Kenne Bell only made a blower for the 03/04 Cobra but since I found this thing it looks like a better way to spend $5,000.
