Need help fast!

This morning, while leaving my favorite coffee shop, I had to get in it a little bit to get on the main road between some traffic. I think I got in it a little too much because at around 4800 RPM the motor started making a very loud clicking noise, from inside the engine. It increased with RPM and was very loud, I immediately pulled over to check and see if maybe something had gotten stuck in the serpentine belt or if my cai had come loose from the fender mount, no problems detected. I got back in a started it back up, still clicking very loudly (top end noise, coming from pass. side cam cover) and decided to nurse it to the closest parking lot, all of a sudden the noise just disappears, the car is running great again! Anyone have this happen to them before? If so, any idea what it might be? And should I be worried about it? 2004 Mustang GT, bone stock engine, 58,749 miles, 5 speed, has traction control too.

Could be a broken peice off of a rod or something. and the clicking stopped 'cause it's sitting in the bottom of Your oil pan now.

ummm yeah man... u threw a rod. thats def what it sounds like, and if thats what it is ur motor is most likely done. but if its just a little piece of the rod and its not thrown (when it rams itself into the actual block) then ur gonna need a new one... but get it checked out man, it could be very very serious.

I doubt it's a rod or piece of one... He said the engine is running great again. I'm not sure on this, but maybe you weren't getting any oil on that side of the head. Maybe the passages were blocked for some reason and whatever it was eventually worked itself out of the way...

Are you sure the noise came from the engine? Were there any codes thrown when it happened?

I think you should drain your oil pan and see if there's any large "clumps" in there that could have stopped oil flow for any amount of time.

No, it's definitely not a rod, the engine started running rough when it was clicking, once the clicking stopped it ran great again, wondering if it might be the lousy factory Ford valve springs? Never had a problem like this before on a OHC engine. Just wondering if anyone had this happen to them before. By the way, I change the oil every 2500 miles religiously, last oil change was done 2 weekends ago, and I replace the filter everytime also. Car has been babied, every now and again I get on it a little bit, but never break the tires loose or over-rev it.

oil pressure is normal according to the guage, not overheating, plenty of oil too. Running like new now, have no idea what could have happened.

now i know this isnt the same thing, but my friend has a chevy silverado, POS but whatever, his truck make a ticking noise, gets louder as it warms up usually, he took it in and some guy was like oh you just have carbon in your injectors, which i think is a load of bs because i doubt it would do that but would that be a rod?

Did you see any smoke or smell anything weird?

Def not a bottom end issue. No codes either huh? I was thinking blown plug for a minute cause it was running rough...

Then I thought bad lifter for a minute, then it oiled up again and now it's fine...

Definitely check it out closely by listening to it from up close. If you can pinpoint the smallest tick, let us know...

Is this a pushrod engine? I have a Chevy truck that has a weak hydraulic lifter. In cold weather it will tick until the engine warms up.
