Power Steering.. help!
Ok guys i was doing donuts and burnouts last night (yeah i'm dumb blah blah). But i finished one and we left the parking lot, and all of a sudden i had NO power steering. It was REALLY fuckin hard to turn (so hard i had to go in reverse when trying to get into my own driveway). It felt normal when i was going at high speeds but once i slowed down i could barely turn at all. I pulled over in a parking lot with a few of my friends and we checked my power steering fluid. It was brown and there was a good amount of it (i know it wasn't red, but i don't think it could cause it to go out like that). We called some automotive people that we knew and they suggested- possible broken belt, or the pumps broken (or something connecting to the pump). He said if there is a loud whining when i turn then the pump could be broke. I tried, no whining. We went back to the parking lot and there was no belt laying around.. anyway i went home and was not happy lol. When i woke up today, i went out to show my dad, and now there IS a pretty loud whine when i turn, but now the powersteering is working fine.
Anyone know what could have happened? I think i'm gonna take it in sometime soon to get an alignment and i'll tell em to check this too. What could the problem be? Was it maybe just overheated or something? How much am i looking at to repair it? Is it safe for me to drive with it like the way it is (works now, but am i damaging something more?)?

Ive never heard of this before. If your fluid was low then yeah it could've overheated. Id check your fluids occasionally for leaks. Doubt it but id still check. Otherwise I would check the pump like you said. I had a friend who was out playing around and got one of those luggage straps wrapped around his rack and pinion. Still dont know how that got there till this day. Hope you get it figured out.
