Rotating assy

Got a question. I am looking a a forged rotating assembly for my 03 Gt. With the stock setup the motor redlines at 5700 rpms ok. Well reading about several name brands of pistons, rods, and cranks. How do you know what rpm they are safe to? None of those kits really say much except good to 600 and 700 and 1000 HP. Does any one know about winding this oll 4.6 up?

it redlines at 5700 cause it stops making power around 5500. it will rev higher, but the heads, cams, and intake wont breathe enough for it to go higher. the rotating assembly will handle more rpm's, but it depends on how much power you're putting to it.

Wrong. The first to go on a motor that is reving high is the valve springs. If you have valve springs that are aftermarket. I would say its safe to rev it up to about 6500. And as long as you dont stroke your motor, you should be safe to 7500-8000 with valvesprings, forged internals, everything [completely built motor(10-15K)]. Once I have my PI swap done up top, I will be making power above the 6500 mark, but I will be shuting her down around 6300 because I dont want to throw a rod. The rotating assembly in the motor shouldnt be pushed pasted 6500 on a daily basis. I mean sure if u have no limiter and it winds past it for a short time so be it, just as long as u dont run it up above 6500 that often. Sure you will see the motors that are stock short blocks, that are wound up to 7200, but not all will do that and I do not suggest you do that.

Yeah see, if I built the motor with higher strength internals I would like to rev it a little bit higher, ah is 7000 RPMs out of the question safely? And yes like the other guy said if the motor stops making power at say 6000 I can fix that.

well with forged internals I would say7500 is easily safe, aslong as you dont go with a stroked set up. And just by switching cams you can change wehre it makes power!

Hell if you just had you engine balanced, rods flash ground and shotpeened, ringed it with some TotalSeal Sealed power rings, put in a 7qt (Canton or Moroso) oil pan along with windage tray and upgraded your oil pump, valve springs, heads and cams along with a better breathing intake manifold(Bullitt or trick flow) you should be able to rev to 7k or even 7500rpms safely and make decent power too. I would suggest a better water pump and under drive pullies too. Might want to uncork the exhaust too with some mid or long tube headersm x-pipe and catback. Just add alittle boost for more fun now that the rods are stronger.

Thats why I love SHO's They can do around 8,000 rpms stock if you chip it. I used to run mine up there all the time.

Hell I would if it didn't have to be rebuilt after every certain # of hours of use oh and if they didn't cost $70k+.

Why does stroking your motor make a difference?

Stroking puts more stress on your motor. Rods in particular and the crank. Nothing like throwing a rod or shearing a rod at 7k+rpms. Strokers don't usually like high RPMs. Stroking usually boosts low end torque.

now if you bore it, you can wind it up high, just not when extending the stroke!

no, its just not possible!

And a 3.700 bore stock 4.6 stroke, with PI heads and cams can make 400 plus N/A RWHP.

the stroker can and will turn rpms faster than that....... as long as you use quality parts buttoning it up and have good parts in it. mine is good to 8000 but stop making power at 6500 so it shifts at around 7000

also its going to take some monstrous heads and cams to turn the rpm its gonna take to make that kind of power all motor. ive seen them but its an expensive engine and not gonna be real streetable becasue of the high rpms that it will make pwoer at
