5.4L Conversion
It seems that a number of people are ordering those adapter plates from Reichert Racing (lets you use a 4.6L intake etc...) and grabbing a 5.4L shortblock, front bumper and timing kit along with an 8 bolt clutch/flywheel. This seems very doable and a nice upgrade for anyone with a broken bottom end. Brand new Lightning Short-blocks with forged pistons and steel crank are going for 1395 at karkraft.com. Would be great for a blown car.

Does sound cool, I thought about it (briefly) but realized I can pretty much make whatever (reasonable) horsepower I want if I spring the money for fuel upgrades. Went ahead and ordered some parts to go forged and upgraded some other stuff.
