Random Failure?

Alright I took my mustang out today and drove it for a while, stopped, went, started it several times it was running fine as always! Has had no problems.

I run in to change into work clothes and come back out and it refuses to start. It does nothing.

I insert the key, turn the key ... Guages come on like usual, and it just makes 1 click, nothing more. and nothing happens. I can turn the key all the way and nothing happens at all. It ran fine before I turned it off. I don't understand.

Only other symptom I have it after you turn the key and it fails, all the parking lights and brake lights come on and flash at 2 second intervals for around 2 or 3 minutes then stop. Then the car will do the one click thing again.

Any ideas at all?

sounds like you have no power to crank it. could be battery is drained or alternator isnt charging the batt while running

I'd charge the battery, if it doesn't charge then it's bad, and if the new battery goes bad then it's the alternator...

Hmm, yeah but all the lights and electronics work very good. I hooked my amp back up today? I mean I have had that for months and it never caused an issue, it was disconnected for a day nd i rehooked it up today but that should be the issue. Everything works good though electronic wise....

You think it's just the battery? Does that explain the flashers? I'll charge it xD

Sounds like you or someone else may have activated the anti-theft. Try disconnecting the battery for like 15 minutes. Then see what happens.

Okay. Battery will be disconnected for 15 mins in the morning. I figured it was theft but didnt think to disconnect the battery. Man I feel dumb. I hope it's that.

The ignition switch is good but doesnt match with the rest of the symptoms so much. It;s such a random failure. To me it seems like the theft system but... I figured if I just left it be and relocked the car it'd be good to go hours later ... it isn't. But the lights still flash like it does when the alarm is activated so that seems like a likely cause...

Hehe, I fixed it. Turns out it was just the aftermarket alarm being idiotic. It's an alpine SEC 8248 and I always forget about it, the previous owner had it installed andi disconnected the siren because it's annoying. However it went into lockdown mode turns out someone must of tried to force entry into my car yesterday to inflict it.

On one hand... I'm glad to know it stopped them.

On the other hand .... WTH!

Thanks guys
