Focus SVT Fuel Pump install

I am new to the forum and I am currently working on my 04 Mustang GT/5 spd with 14,000 miles on the clock. I am in the middle of installing a PCS1 Pro charger with a 3 row cooler (10 psi). More specifically I am installing the 255 lph upgraded fuel pump. I purchased the Focus SVT pump from Ford. ATI's instruction manual states to trim the fuel pump housing retainer that holds the pump in place & drill the the one way valve pickup hole to 13/32". Additionally, they supplied two lengthened screws with two small spacers to realign the pump from the triming that was done. ATI explains that this mod is done to prevent a lean condition when the fuel level is low. After completing this procedure, the pump is lose in the housing. This seems absolutely wrong to me. Something is not right here. Are there any experienced individuals out there that have performed this procedure? It appears that the fuel pump should be a diredt swap with no mods when looking at it, but ATI's instructions state otherwise. Experts?

I have completed the mounting of the cooler & the fit is something less than desirable. I really could not install it as ATI's instructions state. I've commpleted the install, but had to perform some of my own mounting mods to get it to fit as designed. Any other surprises I should look out for? Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forums.

here is your easy fix..

install the pump like you would a normal fuel pump.

don't let your car get super low on fuel and beat the hell out of it.

The way i installed mine was:

I dropped the gas tank...

Took the basket out...

Took the old pump out...

Put the focus pump right in...

Reinstalled the basket...

Put the gas tank back in...

Done...

But if I had it to do over again I would have drilled the basket with holes in the bottom before i put the focus pump back in...

But it is an easy deal...

Dont let your tank get below 1/4 of a tank...

Pretty simple, just take the actual pump out of the plastic piece and replce it with the new one.
