Forged Crank?

So some of you guys might have heard that my motor took a dump on Wednesday. Rick (Twist2go) has the car up at the shop. I went there on Saturday and Rick showed me the chunks of what used to be one of my rod bearings. I'll post up some pics when i get the chance. so, since i now need at least a new rotating assembly, i thought i'd ask a few questions. i'm on a tight budget, so i'm trying to be smart about this. i figure, i may as well go with forged internals now. i've been looking at a couple of VT shortblocks. the main difference between the two i'm looking at is the crankshaft. one's forged, and the other's not. i do plan on going FI on the motor further down the road and i'd like to not have to replace the crank later on for the blower. how much HP can the stock crank hold up to? it's always been my understanding that the weak link in these motors is the rods and pistons. here's the links to the shortblocks i'm looking at right now.

the cast crank will handle around 600 hp so if you plan on going past that with fi go with the forged

Vt has a very goog reputation, I've bought several things from them. easy to bu business with. I would call and talk with them If I was ordering a short/long block. It helps that way you both know what your buying, and what it is set up for. Forged crank, no brainer!

ok, so as far as pistons go, should i go dished or flattop? what are the advantages of each? i'm going 0.020" over on the bore, but not sure what to do about the tops.

Dished if you wanna run a supercharger or turbo later down the line, Flat top if you wanna stay N/A and make good power with out any power adders.

Dished pistons will lower your compression and will also lower the amount of HP you will make N/A but will allow you to run more boost with a turbo or supercharger and make gobs of HP

Flat top or Dome pistons will raise your compression and allow you to make more power N/A without any boost but will severly limit the amount of boost you could run on the engine if you were to go turbo or supercharged later.

Also depending on the cam you wanna run you would need valve releifs in the flat tops to make sure you don't have any piston to valve contact.

I'd call them, and they can tell you how much compression you will have with your set up. Id say to go wirth about 8.5-9:1 compression. Low enough to make good boost, but not so horibly low that even with a centri your car won't suck.

with 19cc your compression is gonna be about 9.2,good for a centri car. for a twin screw you will want the 27 cc which puts at 8.5 or so. because the twin screws don't need the extra low end power the higher compression gives you.go with the forged crank option, comes with better parts and also comes with oil pump

quick update on the car situation. last monday i ordered a forged rotating assembly from VT. here it is:
http://www.vtengines.com/store/index...oducts_id=1333
I went with the 19cc dish pistons since i plan to throw a centri on the car. pistons are 0.020" overbore. Problem is, they haven't shipped yet. i understand that this has been an ongoing problem with VT, and i'm sure they make a great product, but damn. i know i'm not the most patient guy, but i want to drive my damn car!
