Question About Throttle Body
I bought a new intake plenum and 75mm throttle body from 50resto.com and installed them yesterday. When i was done I took my car for a test drive and I could hear the difference, and when pulled out of my neighborhood I puched it and my car just cruised up to 50 mph. It was alot slower. So I called my friend's dad who is a mechanic and asked him what was the problem. He said that my cams are too small and I'm not creating enough back pressure. Is this true? If so what should I do? Thanks for your help.
I put the old throttle body back on but left the new intake plenum. It ran like it did before I put the 75mm throttle body on. I dont think the new intake plenum did anything performance wise, and if it did I cant tell. |

This worked for me.
Remove posative cable from battery. Instal new intake plenum and 75mm throttle body according to directions. Attach posative cable to battery. Turn ignition to auxilary wait a minute. Start car.

I think your problem is your AF is too lean due to more air in the AF mixture. Retune your computer, i would bet if you drive it a little more your engine light will come on as well if you don't get it tuned.
I don't think it has anything to do with your cams. |

You don't need a tune. Reset the ecu as suggested and it will help alittle. A 75mm is too big for an N/A car anyways, you shoulda got a 70mm but nevertheless it's still more power over stock. It has nothing to do with backpressure or cams, and your car won't be slower for it.

my bad i thought it was an AF problem, i stand corrected. To reset MIL do you turn ignition on, hit gas 3 times, then turn off? Thats what I heard you had to do.

Never heard of that. Either use a tuner, pull the ECU fuse, or disconnect the battery. You can go through, I think, 3 drivecycles and it will reset itself also.

Yea my light has been on since about 3 days after I put plenum, TB and CAI. I thought it was running lean and I needed a tune but after reading this thread I just went to check all vacuum lines and I found my CAI came unhooked from my TB and it was sucking straight air into engine. Very bad I hope I didn't damage anything.
- also when I put the x-pipe on the MIL eliminators they sent me were the same, I thought there were left and right connections though |

Are you getting an MIL? Make sure you have all of your connectors to your sensors plugged in. A connector can appear to be plugged in when it really isn't if you don't look at it close enough. And check all sources of vacuum for leaks. You do not need a retune because the incoming air through the throttle plate is metered air. Your cams have nothing to do with your problem. Atx: You would have to have terrible luck for that to damage anything if dirt or anything bad were to get past the throttle plate enough to cause any damage. You worst case scenario is that it ran like shit for a few days. It depends on what you had unhooked exactly, but it was most likely running like that because your MAF sensor was not sending the correct voltage to your PCM based on the air it was reading.

It is running good now, the light is still on but that might be because of the o2 sensors - I put the MIL eliminators on but they are different looking connectors I had to cut some tabs on the left connector to get it to fit.

Thanx for everyones help. The throttle body sensor was not plugged in all the way. So when I plugged that in I took it for a drive and I could really tell the difference, better throttle response and faster accleration , but now I have a different problem. Its shifting at higer RPM's ( i dont know if thats normal for an aftermarket throttle body), and it wont shift into 3rd or 4th gear. My car is an automatic and I tried shifting manualy, but it wont shift out of second. Im gonna try and see if I can find out what the problem is, but if anyone has any ideas of whats wrong I would gladly appreciate it.
Thanx |

I fixed the problem today. There was a spacer that was in between the throttle body and the throttle body sensor. So when i screwed in the throttle body sensor it bowed in the middle cuz of the spacer, so I took off the spacer and screwed the throttle body sensor back in. After that it was fine and shifted smoothly like it did before. But the check engine light is on and has been on ever since i put the new throttle body on. I didnt know if it was normal,if it will go away after a couple days, or if i should get it tuned. But I dont know.

I think you have to reset it somehow, but mdvaldosta explains it further up in this post - check it out. He said it will reset after 3 drive cycles also i think.

just disconnect the battery cable for about 5mins. that will reset it. If it comes back on, you have a problem somewhere. Then it's time to get the dtc retreived so we can help you.
