No Mufflers?

Greetings!

So, I have a 2000 Mustang GT that I've had for about five months. I don't have the money for an exhaust right now, but I really want better sound. I know I could just change the mufflers, but I don't wanna do that just yet.

So, my girlfriend has a 97 Eclipse Turbo and she took everything off after the cat. It sounded great. I just have a couple of questions..

1. Will taking everything off after the catalytic converter affect the performance of the car? I would think not because it shortens the amount of space and time exhaust exits the car, probably making it more efficient...but I don't know much. :-S

2. I'm sure this is illegal (noise violation). How loud do you reckon the car will be without mufflers and the back pipe? I mean, if it's INSANELY loud I don't want to do it, but if it's not so loud as to draw the five o's attention from eight miles away, I may consider it.

This would only be temporary, of course, until I can afford my X-pipe and my cat back system (I just need to save up $550).

Any thoughts?

Oh. I never thought that it might sound like crap. Heh. It makes sense with a V-8. She has a 4-banger, which is a bit different. :S

Yeah, her's was quite loud itself. So I could only imagine a 281 with no mufflers. :-(

Thanks. I'll just stay stock until I can afford the exhaust.

Valve Burner!
You won't burn your valves if you let the engine cool down before you shut it off!

It would be very loud, and I personally wouldn't recommend doing that. And it is very illegal, not that it matters much, but still why chance it, when it won't sound clean, and it will double your chances of being pulled over from the noise.

when I was changing out my downpipe on my wrx I decided to start it up before I hooked up the rest of my exhaust. that thing was so freaking loud, I wish I could have left it that way but I was setting off car alarms at idle. i've never had the mustang exhaust off but based on my experience it would probably get annoying.

It would be very annoying, because it has no tone that way. It's just LOUD, kind of like SLP Loudmouths.

Trust me, its annoying.. It does sound kinda good but its just sooooo loud.. My car was alright with the LM1's but with the turbo set up it runs straight back, no muffler,no cats, just the resonators, will make a vid when i can get a hold of a camera.
