Rear Gear Noob Question

I bought my 99 GT used and I suspect that the previous owner had some minor mods. Here's the question: If while in 4th gear at 60mph, and I'm at 26-2700 rpm, what size rear gear would that be. 17 inch rims all around. Also, what is the best tuner in the $300 range to remove the 125mph limit, that's killing me.

Thanks. Do you have a particular model of SCT in mind? Will I have to also cgange the tune once I change the gears to 3.73? Sorry about all the questions. All of my friends love Chevy, so I don't take their advice, lol.

Welcome to the club... and you cannot trust the speedometer, tach readings.

I bought a used Mustang. The previous owner had obviously programmed it for the 3.73 gears he had installed, but in his urgency to get rid of the car her forgot to program it back. That and other things.

I had thought that I had stock gears --3.27:1. That was exactly what the computer told my gages to display. That is exactly what I saw on the instrument panel. And it was wrong. I actually have 3.73:1 gears.

I had a feeling that my tach might be off, but I'm not sure. The reason why all this is so important is that I don't want to prchase something I already have. I've driven other "stock" 99 and 2000 mustangs, but mine seems to have more power. I've also let others drive it for a second opinion, and they said mine seemed stronger. So I'm assuming that I need to get an external tach first. Would the SunPro at Autozone or Pepboys be sufficient or what do you recommend?
