Mach 1 or cobra? (engine, that is)

so i can get a mach 1 engine with the transmission for about 6 grand
or i can get a cobra engine with the 6spd, driveshaft, fuel tank and lines, wiring, computer for about 5 grand more.

id be building the engine up anyway, and id probably put a turbo on, but still.

Keep an eye on e-bay for the 4v engines. There was one out of a Marauder a few weeks back for sale for under a grand. It was a teksid block, and that's a great deal...

The 2v vs. 4v idle will sound the same if the cams specs are the same. They do the same thing, open and close exhaust and intake valves. It can't make any more of an aggressive sound if it's the same sizes.

It really comes down to whether you are going to do FI or not. If you aren't get the mach engine, because its aluminum. If you are planning on FI, go with the cobra engine because its already fully forged, with the iron block.

I would get the Cobra block, because it's cast iron, fully forged, and can handle a beating.

no if you get an 03/04 cobra motor you need the t-56 set up. I am pretty sure you can use the mach 1 motor wih the t-45 even though i think it is designed for the 3650. They are both five speeds so i dont think it would be an issue with the t-45 on the mach motor. If you plan on getting nitrous or doing forced induction i say go cobra motor. There is a set up on ebay right now for it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...spagenameZWDVW

You can probably get it for under 5k and it only has 20k on the motor and it is complete. It also comes with the blower so its already pushing good power out of the gate

Is there a significant weight difference between the two engines?

There is a weight difference, aluminum is lighter but it is weaker, iron blocks will hold a lot more power than aluminum blocks... I'd go with the cobra engine... but definitely find a cheaper one

i cant seem to find a cheap one
and building an engine is like building a computer
it costs way too much to do it yourself, you really dont save anything

well you can buy ones for like 5-6 grand
and i mean the block is like $300, the heads are $2000, the rotating assembly is another 2 grand, and all the other shit you need for it, it really doesnt end up to you saving any money
