With an O/R X there has gotta be some rasp, because even O/R H-Pipes seem to have a little rasp in higher Rpms.

Aftermarket cats I found don't make much of a difference. Atleast not with the MRT H anyway, because they made the cats just big enough to pass inspection, and thats it. They are Hi-flow on all aftermarket mid-pipes I believe, and they don't give much restriction, so the sound really isn't all that different. The only purpose these cats serve is for emissions, because resriction with them is very minimal.

Yeah I never said it would be whisper quiet with cats. I know X pipes are louder than H, that is why I said he should get a catted H pipe with Flows. He'll have good tone without a lot of volume.

You guys must have only heard stock H-pipes. Aftermarket H-pipes sound just as loud as the X-pipes. I have heard both in person with different set-ups, and the only difference has been the tone. The volume is about the same, except the H is deeper, and the X is raspier most of the time, an not quite as deep.
I'm more than willing to bet on any given weekend I hear more Mustang exhausts than you have in Glens Falls and Saratoga. With all the car hang out spots up here in Albany, Latham and Clifton Park we get all types. I've heard O/R and catted H pipes with plenty different exhaust set ups. I know because you just put on your MRT H pipe it is the greatest thing ever, but X pipes do produce a loud tone than a H pipe.

It has nothing to do with my pipe. I have heard thousands, and I doubt you have more than Lake George buddy. The X is raspier and higher pitched, as far as loudness, go get a goddamn Decibal reader like my friend has and test a bunch, because we have done it plenty of times, and the O/R isn't usually much louder than the Catted unless the cars has LT's. And the X & H pipe have always seemed to be very close, with the X maybe 1-2 decibals higher if that, but they also get raspier in the higher rpms.

Not going to argue with you. If you think that Lake George is the mecca of motor cars that's more than fine with me. I'm sure you and your friends spend your weekend hours at the ass end of every Mustang you see measuring decibels. You did say it yourself though. X pipes are louder. :wink

Yea by 1-2 Decibals, and that is not that much at all. And I didn't say Lake George was the Mecca, but I see and hear alot of Mustangs all day. Plus we have one of the biggest Ford dealerships in upstate ny, with Nemer Ford. And that happens to be where my boy works, and because of that, an other friends of ours who have Stangs, we have tested many many set-ups with the meter. As for the results, the O/R never seem to be a whole lot louder unless LT's were installed, and X & H pipes always read around the same reading, with a few X's pulling on top by a decibal or 2, but the biggest problem, is that most X's start to get to raspy much beyond 3000 rpms, with the exception of a few that I have heard.

Anyway if anyones worried about being too loud, just buy some Flowmaster Delta weld-ins, or regular Magnaflow weld-ins, but don't expect much for power, or sound, or quality for that matter.

You can't really say the X pipe gets raspy at higher RPMs because that depends upon the the exhaust on the car. We all know some exhaust sound better than others with a X pipe.
