Engine Lagging After Stop-Go Driving

My 2001 GT engine is at 112K miles and still running and idling well, but stop/go traffic is a way of life out here and a lot of times I find that after a little bit of driving, backing, stopping, clutch-feathering and such, it seems like the engine needs more throttle to respond...But if I let it sit all night, it goes right back to normal. I usually accelerate in second gear which works fine, but certainly after a few miles of driving thru towns where theres a light every 1000 ft., asshole retards driving like idiots and constantly slowing down etc...It seems like the car needs a lot more throttle to get going before I let off the clutch, Ive even seen the RPMs dip very low while trying to re-accelerate. Is this a normal problem or is it something related to a possible exhaust leak, fuel pump or something else? Please only answer this if you know what you are talking about.

Does your engine ever run a little warm? When was the last time you had a tune up.....check spark plugs, check air filter....etc.

Upgrading your 3.27 gears to 3.73's would help a lot.

The temperature guage runs no further than 50% so I figure that the engine temp is ok, even though it may be a cooling problem I may need a new radiator or coolant. Ive always thought about racing gears but dont they kill your gas mileage and strain the engine while driving at a 50-60mph speed for extended times? If what I always thought about those is wrong Id really like to install them. I recently used a can of gum-out on the engine for sake of protecting it, I dont really notice a difference however I also dont get a chance to let it out much. Im still hearing a muffled, high-pitched whistle in the low end of the gears when Im throttling thats what makes me think I may have a bit of an exhaust leak. The system is stock with Flowmaster catback kit that I put on two years ago, every now and then when I first lean on it for the first time of the day I smell a quick hint of exhaust while the engine is starting to warm up. After driving in this kind of traffic when I experience this lagging, Ill start the engine and it sounds and feels like it has NO power, almost like its only running on 6 cyllinders. I clean the CAI and filter regularly but not TOO regularly cause I know letting it build up helps the HP.

Yeah....you really need a tune. Get new spark plugs and I would highly recommend getting new oxygen sensors since you do a lot of stop and go city driving.

If you think you have an exhaust leak run some seafoam through your vacuum line off your throttle body and then check your exhaust pipes for leaking white smoke.

Thats a good idea I was planning on new spark plugs anyway...It wouldnt have anything to do with ignition timing though would it? Ive always wondered what kind of a difference Steeda timing adjusters make. Thanks
