How high is too high?

Im thinkin about buildin up a spare motor for my 99 gt just to have ready to go when the one in the car decides to go south. The one im plannin to build should have around 10.5:1 compression. Is that to high of compression to run boost on or even a small shot of nitrous?

depends on how much boost, what kind of boost. if its light boost it will be fine. If heavy boost on say a kb you need to lower the compression. No idea about the other blowers since i have a kb. Pretty sure the others like high compression, but if its really high boost im sure you will have to lower compression a bit. Better safe than sorry.... for me at least since i blew my motor awhile back.

What are your ideas of your build?

i think for the nitrous that compression would be ok but not for the boost

10.5 is a lot of a DD boost car, you would be limited to 6psi and intercooled if you did it. nitrous is not effected by compression like boost is, a nitrous motor loves compression. you will just have to tune it to where you want it and how much nitrous you want to run.

As already stated, that's pretty high for a boosted car.

You'll be fine spraying nitrous though.

How do you change the compression? Different Pistons?

That's one way. Also swapping heads can change your compresion ratio

thats too high for a boosted motor but could be done, with a good tune and good fuel, but 9.5 with a centri blower is perfect, high compression with nitrous is no problem at all

The plan for the motor came from one of my motor building books i have here. They took a 98 block and put a set of PI ported heads and some non PI cams in it and then ran all bolt ons with a stock PI intake and made around 415 hp at the crank. They said that by running the PI heads on the non PI block is what boosts the compression up so much.
