Compression

Ok What is compression? What do the numbers mean (9.0:1)?

I know that lower compression will give you less hp N/A, but is also better for boost.

I know that higher compression will give you much more power N/A, and is much more N2O friendly.

Someone, could you just explain everything you know about compression to me? lol

Im no expert on this but my guess is that 9.0:1 compression would be the ammount that the air is compressed by the piston in the cylinder vs the air in its un compressed state so in the end air is compressed 9 times more than it is un compressed ... I think lol

it's the ratio of volume in the combustion chamber when the piston is at bottom dead center to the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at top dead center.

Sounds like a better more complete and correct explanation than mines

get dome top pistons. why do you want to raise your compression? if you plan on going FI, you'll want lower compression.

if you decide to run bigger valves with the heads/ cams, you may want to go with dished pistons so the valves don't hit the top of the piston. if you plan on staying N/A, you could probably raise your compression and be fine as long as the tune is good. with higher compression, you need to watch for detonation. if you plan on putting a S/C or turbo on the car, you'll want to lower your compression.

Yeah. I plan on hopefully doing all this through AC. So i kno he'll take care of it good. I dont ever plan on going FI with my car. Just a nasty cammed & headed gt with lots of N20... probably just a 100 shot

9.0:1 is the ratio

example 10:1 is higher

it is 10 cubic inches of oxygen before it gets squeezed buy the piston and becomes 1 cubic inch...........ten to one

higher would be nice on our cars if you plan on staying n/a....

the higher the compression the more octane you have to run to prevent detonation like the other guy said.....

ok so the 9.0:1 means that 9.0 cubes of o2 are compressed into 1 cube?

so the . is just a decimal as in nine point zero?
