much easier to find heads and such for romeo.....the windsors come with the 8 bolt crank. i think the windsor was only made for the 99-00 model years as far as mod motors are concerned.....?

windsor has the 8 bolt crank (most of them, some are out there with the 6 bolt), more bolts on the valve cover, cam gears are pressed on

that's all the differences i can think of off hand. they are the same engine with only minor differences. if you go with a forged crank in a romeo you can get the 8 bolt crank so that's not a big deal.

Besides the 8 bolt on the windsor is cast.

01 was. and none have forged internals. Windsor heads will fit on romeo blocks and romeo heads on windsor blocks. Just basically different factorys, more valve cover bolts, and press on gears. Aftermarket cams require bolt on gears so there is no problem there at all.

I have a Windsor.

Question: I heard that Ford changed the way the cast rods and pistons in 2001. That was supposed to be why Procharger recommended 12 lbs boost, but only 8 lbs for 2001-2004. Then again, I heard that oo have Windsor motors and 01 have Romeo. Do you supppose the difference in recommended boost is actually the difference in Windsor and Romeo?

Well, my engine occasionally sees 12lbs of boost and it's a 2004... I haven't had any problems in my year of having it... that's with a Vortech though, not a procharger...

I have handled rods out of Romeo and Windsor blocks. So far, they have all contained Ford cracked rods.

The Windsor plant was forced place truck cranks in some of the motors during 00-01, because they couldn't keep up with production demands. The cranks are still cast- they just have 8 bolts. I have seen several 8 bolt cast cranks advertised as forged on Ebay. I am sure that unsuspecting/unknowledgable customers have gotten stuck with cast cranks after paying forged prices.

01's were also Windsor motors. The Romeo plant was still recovering from fire damage when the 01 production year came around.
