oil

oil...mine runs on gas. Mobil 1 seems to be the way to go. I have it in almost all of our cars, even a boat and lawn mower.

my mom has a new 3 series BMW, they said she would not need an oil change for one year or I don't know how many miles, how is that possible?

the newer grade oils, along with the engines being more efficient today, don't break down like the oils did 20 yrs ago. 2-3K is really overkill.

My cavy changes the oil while I drive. All I have to do is dump a quart of that cheap stuff in it every week.

Oil Change

Lets see if I get this correct. Changing your oil every 1500 miles is cheap insurance against what? Insurance that the Mideast will hold a grip on this country forever with this attitude.
Oil does not break down even under the most extreme conditions in 1500 miles.
Major car manufacturers have now proven that with oil monitors now mounted on vehicles like the new Corvette and Lambo, Porsche and Mercedes Benz that Oil should last between 8-10K easily with out hard driving. Your Stang will be just fine and so will you wallet.
Do everyone a favor and change less frequently and leave some oil for the rest of us.

we have enough in alaska to last us(the USA and us only) to last for a long damn time. i dont care it doesnt completely break down but it does start to break down and also i synthetic oil is fucking SYNTHETIC. therefore we dont have to have oil to make the shit! and also you said should last 8k without hard driving. i tell ya what buddy, i drive the shit out of my stang, and its mostly in town. if you dont hotrod your stang, you dont deserve to have one. dont talk to me about oil, ive been in the oil business for over 3 years now!

Wild Pony, Who do you think you are telling me how often i can change my oil? I'll change it every 50 miles if i want to! Stay out of everyone's chili, and you'll get along much better here!

It IS a waste to change Synthetic at 1500 miles!!

Only a complete idiot with no regard for the environment, the future or any knowlegde about oils and the distinction between synthetic and conventional oils would change syn thetic oil every 1500 miles. I drove a rotary motor RX7 to 175K wih Mobil One oil changes every 20K. What the previous dissenter was trying to say was that the Middle East will always have us by the ball with fools not caring about thier personal consumption of what we buy from them. He was right and did not deserve your righteous indignation as you can spend your money any way you want, but this country's constitution guarantees us the right to call you a damn fool (and rightly so!!).
