i've actually discussed this once before on here. I've been trying to find someone with a set up ur describing so we can answer that ? for u.

everyone i've talked to have lived in locations where they can get around emissions with long tubes.

I believe you will pass. I think you will just fail the CA Smog (if you are located there)

You said right now you Dont have cats, you just got the x pipe with long tubes? I have a 2000 gt with shortys, x pipe no cats, and it didnt pass, mainly because of the check engine light, but also no cats, so I had to have a chip put on to turn off the light, and I got cats welded onto my x pipe.

they can fail you with the visual test, but you might pass the actual emissions test if you have cats on.

Stay away from places where they would nail you, like Exxon, Jiffy Lube obviously Ford or anywhere else thats actually on the map. Practically everywhere you turn there are privately owned mechanic shops where they'll pass it for you...I actually found MINE within EYE SITE of the Exxon where Ive had my cars inspected for years! But the big name stations will have to fail you, if they inspect the car at ALL that is.

You can go catless if you want, but it's all about taking a risk when it comes time for your inspection. And if you don't pass, then you'll know why, so all you gotta do is change the pipe back to catted. I would have went uncatted, but my exhaust is already loud enough, and I like how clean it sounds. I have no rasp, or poppy sounds or anything, it's just clean, clear and deep/ throaty, the way I like it. So really it's up to you, because neither way is really better than the other, it's more dependant on sound, and emissions testing.

In reality, regardless of state inspections, you would be in violation of Federal Laws that could put you in jail, fined up to $10,000 and car impounded. It's all a "luck" game for us.

if you really want to know if u will pass look up your emissions laws for your county i found that if i drive 10 miles they don't have emissions because where i come from pa the emissions laws very from county to county werid i know just go google it. i plan on long tube headers i also found in a thread on here that you lose like 2hp but you can gain like 2 tq with catts not a really big difference besides the sound. hope it helps i have asked this ? numerous times

+1

Thats why I try to take the "play-it-safe" routes with my moddifying. If I didn't drive my car much though, and it was only a weekened, see no no rain car, then the whole off-road thing wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Those laws are never taken that far, but I know that Fl has no emissions laws...at least not the ones that affect these cars cause my cousin took the cats off his 05 GT and passed down there.

The converters are easy to remove and replace as long as getting the front end of the car off the ground is no problem for you, theres no connecting and disconnecting of sensors and what not but remember that the engine computer is like a black box on an airplane, it records everything including signs and signals that point to the engine being run with no cats, no mufflers and no sensors.
