UD Pulley on Mach 1

Ok so I've read all of the horror stories about UD Pulleys and the Mach 1 (for those of you that don't know it is linked to causing the oil pump gears to chip teeth and ultimately killing your motor.) A lot of the stuff I have read though is pretty dated and sketchy, because it was never directly linked from what I have read and it has happened with stock pulleys too. I called FRPP and they said they haven't heard of anything like that being a problem. So what are your opinions?

It's a load of crap. My buddy has had Steeda's on his Mach for over a year, beating the piss out of it and it runs like a champ! Also another one of my buddys put some Steeda's on his Mach 2 months ago w/ no problems. I have the Steeda's on my 01 Cobra (almost the same engine) and have had no issues.

Basically, it's a load of crap and we all noticed a good difference w/ the pulleys and are a great mod for the money! Go ahead and get them I say...

Anyone else. I'm leaning more and more toward it being coincidence.

It's one of those things where it happened to someone after they put on the pulleys so that is what they blamed it on. I heard the same rumors about the GT. If you want the pulleys get the pulleys. They will not break your car. :wink

i too have have pulleys on my mach 1 and from the information ive gathered it seems to be happening to cars that hit or exceed 7k rpm!(or thats how i took it) But then again alot of the veteran engine builders on that site(mach1registry.com) dont reccommend them at all, whether its street or drag use. Something that has to do with with vibrations caused by the pulley... ill post up the links so you can read but man youll be there all day..lol :sleep

What I have heard is that the non-piggy back style, don't always have the perfect balancing as the same OEM or by using a piggy back style, therefore some cars take a change, some do fine with it. It could be true that it only happens at higher RPM's.

Yeah I've been on the Mach1registry and they seem to think it is installation, piggy backing, or harmonics. I spent at least an hour yesterday reading up on that stuff.

So are you gonna buy them or what?? If you buy them, then let us know if you have any problems.

The previous owner had them on my car for about a year....the stories ive heard have scared me to a point where im about to take them off and throw them s.o.b's away! i advise you as they (mach1registry.com) have advised me that the gains are not worth the risk and seek that HP somewhere else...

They've been on for over a year, yet you still believe the rumors? Aren't you proof that they aren't true?

you could say that its proof but the guy babied the living ish out of it and never took it to the track or anything...or so he says..lol but im still skeptical about the pump shattering. they had alot of information over there that made and again didnt make sense.

I've talked to a 3 different people in my area who have driven their cars really hard and haven't had a problem. FRPP has never even heard of the problem and Steeda doesn't even have a disclaimer and I'm sure that if there is any chance of it happening they would have taken the product off of the market for Machs. And the pump failing has happened with stock pulleys. It sounds to me like a few people happened to have the pulleys on the car and then it grew into a huge rumor that the pulleys were the problem. There's no direct evidence of the pulleys causing the pump to break.

And I'm always one to look at the bright side. If by chance the pump does fail and my engine goes to see baby Jesus, I get a new engine with forged internals.

di they have mach's? did steeda acknowledge they were machs or a standard gt? if not then i guess so bro...(confused--->) i thought so too, but i had assumed the cars that had problems were the drag queens! not the daily driver...who knows? i guess like neckbonekat said im a living testament to show that my pullies dont have an affect on the pump...oh well... tell me how it goes!

If anyone is that worried about it, then just ask a Ford tech if they see alot of Mustangs that have had problems from UDP's being installed.

Well the problem is it is only with Mach 1s, supposedly. And there aren't that many out there. Not to mention that the rumor has so many people scared of putting them on that there are that many more that don't have aftermarket pulleys. So the chances of finding a Ford tech that actually knows about it is slim.
