Can i beat him


Discussing Can i beat him in the 99-04 Forum. Ok my friend has a 05 gt 5 speed with cai, hurst shifter, full catback, ...

Can i beat him

Ok my friend has a 05 gt 5 speed with cai, hurst shifter, full catback, lowering springs, and predator chip. I have an 03 gt vert 5 speed with K&N intake no mufflers for now and im getting 4.10 gears PRO 5.0 shifter and full catback exhaust. what are my chances of taking him ive driven his car and it is diffenitly faster than mine right now. How well I stack up after my mods are put in. He usually beats me but not by much.

You'll get him from a jump with the 4.10s, but the fact that his car is tuned may help him out a good amount. I think he will take you on the top end, but you will win from 1st through 3rd.

05GT stock numbers:

curb weight - 3480 lbs.
hp - 300
tq - 320

03GT stock numbers:

curb weight - 3280 lbs.
hp - 260
tq - 302

The 05 mentioned with those mods is probably putting out around 330 - 340 flywheel horse.

You're probably putting out around 270 -280 with the mods you listed, including what you're adding. The gears will certainly help.

If he's not beating you by much, chances are he's not driving the car as well as it can be driven, because it's a faster car, although I'm not saying he should kill you. But he should be beating you fairly well.

You should also think about getting a nice custom tune for your car. That would close the gap a lot.

No tune, no chance. Need gears, a tune and better breathing or he'll take you past 3rd.

Yes they do. About 150 - 200 lbs. more.

my tuner told me those cars with good flowing exhaust and a tune would be whole new cars....

not looking good in your favor

and also, my friend has an 07 GT.... his came with 3.55's... so he might be ahead of you there too

Yeah he'll beat you pretty good...

And trust me, DON'T GO 4:10's W/ A 2V!!

Unless you're putting down some serious power, 4:10's are garbage in these cars. I had both 4:10's and 3:73's in my GT and there was no 3rd gear w/ the 4:10's; it would just wind out and not move. With the 3:73's it would wind out and move in 3rd. I raced another car exactly like mine besides the fact he had 4:10's and I had 3:73's (equal drivers & tires too BTW) and pulled a car and a half on him from 1st until half way into 3rd. Take it from someone who has experienced both sides of the spectrum, go 3:73's w/ your GT and you'll be very pleased...
