I have the Comp XE278AH cam with stock pistons with no issues and they have .550 lift. So unless you put them in wrong they'll work.

comp stage 2 (XE270AH) wont work unless you degree them correctly. if you don't degree them you will have ptv issues.

vt stage 2 will work, but you need new springs and of course a tune

btw stage 2 isnt worth it unless you have headwork

242 intake/246 exhaust. If you get these you'll need new springs. I used Comp Springs, Summit part number CCA-26113-16. The car has a real nice loap. The drivabilty is fine and the power is great. I couldn't imagine if I had new heads!

Twist2Go installed them for me but as far as the directions go you degree them to stock. When I called him for opinion he was quick to reccomend them seeing how I was going to get the 268 which is a mild cam. If you have any doubt on the degree you can install them to stock then turn the motor over at the crank. If it doesn't make a full rotation then add or remove a couple degrees at a time till it does. That said unless it's way off it will not cause PTV issues.

wow, wen i called comp they didn't recommend the 270 or 278 with stock pistons.

i called Scott at vt and he stated the same thing, he also said nothing above stage 1 without head work.

just degree them right and you'll be ok. Go stage 2 and be ready for some head work down the line...

how do the numbers work, i know they're duration and lift and all that, but is a 262 more agressive than...268 or is the higher the number the more agressive sounding?

the higher duration is more aggresive and generally dictates the power rpm band. as far as the aggresive exhaust note it is the lsa--the lower the number the rougher the idle(it also effects power rpm band)

I think that with a higher the duration the more aggressive it is. And the duration is how long the valve will stay open. And the lift is how much the valve opens.

Will I just decided to go with the Vt stage 2 N/A cams

if you buy boost cams will they harm anything? or just not perform as good as they would with FI

if you plan on fi in future, then get blower cams. vt stage 2 blower cams also improve hp n/a. A very good choice imho

good call. that's a great cam. and you're correct on the "numbers" too. A 262 cam is less aggressive than a 268 cam, a 278 cam etc... the higher the number, the bigger the lope and the rougher the idle.

the only difference in boost cams and na cams is their timing. running boost cams on an na motor won't hurt or help you any more than running na cams... but they will def help you once you smack a blower on that thing!

i was looking at cams and springs and was thumbing through some books, what if you ran the comp 274 cams for an NPI motor in a PI motor, they have .500 lift so you might be able to get away without springs, this is a stage 3 cam for the NPI motors. just curious as to the effects of that in the PI motors with stock heads
