$250 - $500. depends on who you trust, how good their work is, and how much you want to spend on good work.

btw if you get the speed calibrator you won't need a tune.

if you want to tune your car, the tuner (i recommend SCT XCal 2 or 3) can compensate for different gears, but you're lookin to add another $350 - $400 on top of what you're already gonna be spending.

$324.28 for gears, bearing kit, speed cal
$250 - $500 for gear install

$575 - $825 gears, bearing kit, speedcal, install w/out a tune

$900-$1225 gears bearing kit, install w/ tune.

I don't think you are supposed to advertise the discount code, because other people who are not members could get the discount...

Yeah you you should be able to take him with either set of gears especially if you get a tune. Do not get a speedcal. IMO it is a waste of $100. Just save that money toward a tuner. I got both of my tuner on ebay for a little over $200. If you plan to stay N/A go with the 4.10 gears without a doubt. As for the cost, are you supplying the parts or are they? Should be between $250-$500 depending.

hok, dude....

you don't need to rebuild your rear end. don't worry about that until your putting more than 350 ponies to the wheels.

You can decide on whether you get 3.73's or 4.10's... I had 3.73's and I loved them, but the 4.10's will give you a little more edge on your buddies trans am. there really isn't that much difference between the two.

Whatever gear you buy, make sure you get FRPP's. www.americanmuscle.com has some of the best prices. You will need the gear and the install kit, and that should cost you just under $200. Try and find a well known mechanic in your area to install them for you... you should spend a solid $300-$500 on the install.

DON"T buy a speedcal. Save your money and buy yourself a handheld tuner for just a little more money (and you can do tons more stuff with it). I recommend the DiabloSport Predator or the XCAL 2.

i seriously disagree. why would you leave yourself open by not doing it when you have the gears out and have the chance? Cause it would look pretty stupid to put brand new gears in a rear end, but not to replace the bearings, shims etc, and then have something fail, and you're stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

but do what you want...it's your car.

Preventative Maintenance is the most important thing with cars.

If you don't have the money to do the whole thing correctly to completion the first time, when will you have the money to fix it the second time?

It's not gonna cost that much extra to have them put the bearing kit in...because when they take the gears out, they still have to take most of that stuff out anyways...so why not just take care of it while you have the chance, then you don't have to worry about something happening. It has nothing to do with horsepower, but everything to do with common sense.

if you're going to change your plug wires, why wouldn't you change your spark plugs?

kinda like common sense

i don't believe he is talking about replacing everything..

I wouldn't replace my t-lock and axles just to drop gears in.
but it's always a good idea to replace the bearings.

+1
Better do it now rather than take it all apart a second time because something broke. Like the man said, common sense. :wink
This is what you want.

NBK is talking about the discount code specifically given to this forum. Its a different code but also gives the 6% off.

Despite it being our code or not send that info in PMs. Discount codes get taken away when people start distributing them to any Joe reading the Internet.

oh yeah that's a no brainer. i thought that it was a given to replace all your bearings and all when you put the new gear in. i thought you were talking about doing everything... like the axles, t-loc etc.... doing all that isn't necessary until you go bigger hp with drag radials... but yeah i def agree that you wanna use the "install kit" when getting a new gear.

OK, if that is the discount code from another forum why should we care? We still have ours. Besides I think you are looking at discount codes the wrong way. Most sites use them to find out how much business a certain forum sends them. I've never heard of a code being taken away because you gave their store too much business. Does that make sense to you?

FRPP doesn't make 3.90s. If you are going to procharge eventually get the 3.73s.
