Shifter Problem

This only applies to driving hard. When I drive easy (99%) of my driving I have no problems. But when I decide to get on it I'm having a problem. I recently installed a new shifter so I'm thinking it is that, but here's the problem. I go through first, shift to second, get to 5500-6200 rpms, and here's the tricky part. Usually that's around 60mph roughly. Ok by this time if I usually have to start worrying about slowing down, but even if I get to third, third isn't my problem. It's fourth. When I go to throw the car into fourth the shifter pops it back to neutral. I'll have to make sure, but I think the clutch is still in when this happens. If not it is right after I let off. So my car goes right back to neutral and I rev hard when I get back on the gas if I don't watch it. But when I let the car coast for a second or two it lets me shift into fourth no problems.

Opinions?

I had a similar problem with my shifter when I first put it in, but mine would always grind into second. Resolution... Got myself a new clutch and gave the shifter about a month of break in time. Now I can powershift every gear like butter.

I'm not powershifting at all. I was thinking I need to make the shift a little longer. Daily driving though the car runs great.

Mine did the grinding even when just shifting fairly fast at high rpms. Not speed shifting or powershifting. I was just stating after I replaced my clutch and broke my shifter in the problem was solved, thus resulting in perfect powershifts.

Gotcha. It's not grinding when I try to put it in gear though. I get it to the stop point and I take my hand off/release clutch. Only problem is when I take my hand off it goes back to neutral. Like you said it probably just needs time to sink in.

Mine did

Also, if the stop bolts weren't adjusted right would he be having problems with 2nd also??? If your stop bolts do happen to be the problem... remove them. The 3650 has stops built into the tranny.

the T-3650 has a built in stop already so you should be good to remove the stop screw... i might be confussing the 3650 and 56 but i don't think i am

^your right

the t-3650 has internal shift stops.

you should take the stops out of the shifter completely.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but one of three things happened tonight when I took out the stops.

1. Shifts got really friggin sloppy.

2. Touched the screwdriver to the wire for the power jack right infront of the shifter and blew a fuse.

3. Fourth is still getting thrown out.

To top the night off I got beat by a guy running some hellacious turbo or he sprayed when I got into fourth.
