transmission fit?

my transmission has been going out in my 99gt for a while and my dad said he found a t-20 transmission or something like that from a junkyard that has been in a couple of older mustangs im just wondering if that transmission will fit becuz its only 200 dollars and i dont have the money to rebuild mine

what year do you have? the mustangs came with t5,t45,t56,and the 3650. if it is older it probably is a t5 and will need a few things to make it fit. you will need a bell housing, bell housing spacer, cross member, spedo will be a mechanical on that, and a few other things i cant think of right off the top of my head.

in other words it will probably cost you less to find a different one.

search the junk yards for a more adaptable one

i just seen you said 99. it is a t45, what is going out? what is it doing?

a loud whistling sound almost sounds like its supercharged in all gears but 4th.. and it grinds when i put it in 4th gear

you might be able to pick up a used one at a decent price. i have bought 5 t45 transmissions, the used ones i pick up for around 350-450. this one i just bought is built and shouldnt need anything for a while.

not trying steal the post but the top of my 3rd-4th shift fork broke off the other day (i was part of the problem on this one). Anyways it looks like an easy fix but i dont know where to get a new shift fork at can someone plz tell me. my tranny is a t-45.

go to ebay you can buy a reman for 999. and get the tr3650 its a little stronger good luck

the t5 can be built to handle a lot of power, some places are even rating them over a 1000hp. the t45 is an ok trans for the normal person. i didnt want to deal with conversions, i just had a t45 built internally. it will handle a lot more than stock, and will with an input shaft change it will handle more than i will put to it.

ok well where can i buy a rebuild kit for my tranny is it dealer only or what. (t-45)

oh and right now i have to drive with only 1st, 2nd, then go all the way to 5th. and yes i took out the broke peices of my shift fork.
