Estimated cost on auto to manual swap

My bad if its on here already, I just searched all the keywords I could think of and couldnt really find anything usefull. I just bought an 03 GT Auto (I blew up my camaro, needed a car fast, This was the ONLY GT around at the time). I hate automatics, too much maintnence, too sloppy, too boring. My dealer just said its impossble to do it, its all computer linked, blah blah blah... I thinks thats a bunch of BS. How much do you think im lookin at here all together (parts, labor, ect.) to have this swap done? I get more and more depresed everyday I gota put this POS in drive, someone help me out here

You have to find a ecu from a manual mustang and swap it with the tranny, it will not be cheap unless you can do it yourself...

Like too expensive to even wana get into? How would it compare to building an auto to match the standards of a 5sp?

keep the auto or trade for a GT that's already a 5spd. If built right, a good auto will outperform a stick hands-down.

i say keep it, i was reading an article the other day of cobra guys swapping back to 4r70w's, it will support whatever you throw at it and there are many options to make it "unboring" (vavlebody, lockup, transbrake, change stall, shiftkit, sct). with all cars theirs maintenace..you gotta pay to play

I have a 99 GT and am thinking of converting to a 5 or 6 spd also. I agree the automatic isn't nearly as fun to drive as a manual. Looking online for prices for the transmissions plus the clutch and everything you need for the swap plus the cost of labor unless you can do it yourself will be expensive. So trading your car in for a comparable 5 spd would make more sense. However, if you supercharge your car you will have plenty of power to make it fun. And then in the future you could still swap to a 5 spd.

i did this swap just a few months ago. total cost was $4600 with a T-56 trans. that is with the labor and with a $516 Aluminum drive shaft that had to be custom made lol

Ugh.... ya killin' me hee

jaxdawg's cost is right in line with my swap. Of course, he needed to convert from auto so needed a bunch of other stuff, so sounds like a good price he had there

i dont know what it is with you guys and the t56, i dont really care for them unless its a road course car. the swap to a 45 or 3650 would be so much cheaper and better in my opinion.

^ it's all about the ratio's, my friend (at least it was for me)

My ride is SOOOO much nicer to drive now. No more 1K RPM drop between 4th & 5th gear as with the T-3650. I can now cruise at 55mph and pull 2100 rpm's rather than choose 2600 4th or 1600 5th The T-56 drops a gear smack dab in the middle of the T-3650 4th/5th gears to make a sweet 6 speed.

Also a much closer 1st~2nd so smoother shifting there as well
