Winter Tires?

Its gettin to be that time of year, i think, maybe? Anyway I wanna get some tires so I dont get stuck on summer rubber when it snows. Im on long island so there isnt alot of snow but i need some control on my way home in traffic. Im think bout goin wit an all season setup. So wut kinda tires are you guys in winter months. I wanna stay away from snow tires cuz they seem to wear to quick, plus they wont be necessary. TIA

Id buy a cheap beater car, for about the same price as 4 tires. Other than that I know the Bridgestone Blizzaks are pretty good for snow/ice.
