UD Pulleys

I'm going to be buying some ud pullies in a couple of days and was just wondering how hard it would be to install them myself. Also, what tools would I need?

UDP's are really easy to install. the only issues i had was:
1: the alternator pulley- i didn't have enough room to work on just removing the pulley (impact wrench wouldn't fit) so i had to remove the alt, then remove the pulley. not really a big deal.
2: the crank pulley- breaking the nut loose without the crank turning can be a PITA. you can leave the car in gear while trying to remove the nut, or take a floor jack and position it under the crank pulley with just enough tension on it to keep the crank from turning while you try to break the nut free.
a lot of people here will tell you to stay away from the piggyback style pullies because they're garbage. here's what i have to say about that: replacing the harmonic balancer (which on our cars is the crank pulley) can result in inadequate vibration damping. this is caused by having a smaller diameter harmonic balancer (UDP for the crank). this can lead to a harmonics problem which can result in failure of the oil pump gears. with the piggy back style UDP's, the crank pulley is bolted, or piggy-backed, onto the original crank pulley/ harmonic balancer. i personally have been running MArch piggy back style UDP's for over a year an haven't had any issues at all with them. good luck and ask if you have any other questions...

as for tools, you'll need a harmonic balancer puller. you can get one from Auto Zone or wherever. they're pretty cheap. an impact wrench will also help a lot. i also recommend about a 2 foot breaker bar to help remove the nut on the crank pulley. i'm not sure on the socket sizes for the nuts and bolts. sorry, i did mine a while back and i can't remember...
i also recommend some loctite if you go with piggy back UDP's to bolt the new crank pulley to the harmonic balancer

Thanks for all the info. Now I'm just trying to decide between the BBK or Steeda pulleys.

break the nuts loose before removing the belt.... it gives a little more tension to help you out

i like bbk but there all about the same, and to make it really easy use an impact gun.
