Do We Really Give Good Advice?
Here's my beef. When someone asks for an opinion on a product or aftermarket/performance parts, we have a tendency to answer with what we bought and purchased. We do this whether we like it or not. And we do this because the last thing we want to do is tell you that we are a dumb shit for buying something that we may not be happy with or is not the best. The result is, we get subjective advice that is not always accurate. Take all the questions about exhaust systems and which one sounds the best. We get a ton of different answers all based on what each individual purchased. We really don't get the best answer. It's the same as when someone asks about Superchargers. Each individual regurgitates what he purchased. I hear people rave about Novi's and others rave about Prochargers. Is one really better than the other? It's like shouting out your favorite NFL team. It may not be the best but it's the one you like. I'm not sure theirs an answer, it's just an observation. If we were more honest about our answers, the advice would be much better and of some value. Just my .02

i think that what should be done (and i probably need to work on this as well) is when somebody is comparing vortechs and prochargers, for example, people need to tell others what kind of system they have and what they like/dislike about it, as opposed to saying vortechs suck.. get a paxton..
also, if members didn't actually hae either of the brands, they could post valid, unbiased FACTS about each one, and let the potential buyer make up their own mind about which one to buy. |

you know, i dont mind hearing peoples opinions on stuff they buy. but when someone asks you a question like "what are the differences between a mach 1 engine and a terminator engine?"
DONT GIVE THEM AN ANSWER YOU DONT KNOW. someone said that the mach 1 engines and the termie engines are the same, minus the blower. COMPLETELY WRONG. thats just an example, but people definately need to do a little more thinking before they throw out a bunch of wrong information. somebody here could run into very expensive and shitty situations because someone spit out a bunch of bad information..

most answers are bias opinions. a lot of people "tell" and it should be a "recommend". there are products out there that are "better" than others, but that doesnt make the "other" brand necessarily bad. that is what a lot of people try and argue about also. there are good and bad in every product, but no one tries to explains that to others.

or the person who say's pd blowers are better than centri's, or turbo's are better ,or visa-versa,and they don't even have a power adder on their car.
I think we will always defend our choice of power adder. does not mean one is better than the other, but it IS the best for our wants.

On top of giving biased advice i hated when i would ask a question on how to do something such as when i asked how to disable the seatbelt chime and instead of answering my question all you get is preaching about how seatbelts save lives , etc.
If you ask a question you are looking for an answer.....not an opinon If someone asks how so and so rims will look on my car then that becomes a place for an oppiniated answer. |

You gotta take all the opinions and and come up with a decision. People can only comment on what they know, not many people buy 3 brands of the same part. But if someone with a bone stock car is talking like they know everything, they may just read the brosures.

i agree, most answers are mearly opinions or hearsay. but i find it hard to get around this. but thats usually what people are looking for to help them decide on something. look at how many threads we have on 'which rims should i buy'. when someone ask which cat back i always say magnapack, and yes thats what i have but i had slp lms before and changed. i have the tri ax but recomend mgw, i have the bbk cai but recomend jlt. but i think we have enough knowledgeable members here to give the correct answer or correct someones wrong answer for when it comes to actual tech questions.

Everyone has opinions. It is up to readers to sift through the information and make a decision and hopefully a discussion forum is not their only source of information. The posts I dislike the most are 1) those that are absolute untrue. 2) those that compare apples to oranges such as an incomplete supercharger kit at $1200 to a fully complete one at $4500 without telling the differences, and 3) the "that part is junk" type of post without giving information as to why.
Since I'm still fairly new to the forum, I still have trouble separating knowledgeable members from opinionated members. If they have not stated their experience in their post then I look at their signature to see what mods they are running. If they are making comments about a supercharger and they do not appear to have had any experience with superchargers then I discount that information and move on.

I am fairly new to this forum as well. I joined to learn more about the 4.6 and to try and figure what is of good quality and what is not so it would help me make informed decisions as it relates to the performance parts and accessories.

every forum is like this when dealing with tech articles and info... everyone prefers to think that the part they have is inferior to none, and im guilty of doing it before as well... there will always be opinions, but if they are presented as ideas or more than one option for the scenario... then things will go a lot more smoothly
