Grinding... Help!

well i just got back from work.. and i noticed that my tranny is grinding EVERY time when i shift into third (like when i'm 2/3 way into the 3rd gear position). Clutch FULLY depressed and it's doing this.

I didn't REALLY notice it until today, but i think it has been around a day or 2 and i just thought i was letting off the clutch too early.

What does this mean? Does this mean i might need to replace tranny? Should i stick to just shifting 2nd->4th for now? Is it somehow my fault.. what was the cause? All in all what can i do and how much am i looking at? Could it just be low transmission fluid or something easy?

Prob syncros. But mine do that from 1-2, so I replaced my clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and resurfaced my flywheel and it fixed the problem. But it also didn't do it every time. Only in the upper rpms and during speed/power shifting.

I'm not 100% because replacing all of them fixed my problem, so couldn't really use the process of elimination. I would say the ones that probably helped the most were clutch and throw out bearing.

6 minutes is too long. and i believe he is semi-godlike and that means he shouldn't need to sleep.

I had a similar problem I changed to a sts shifter and changed my tranny fluid to royal purple, also my 2nd and 3rd would grind but they don't any more unless it's really cold out, takes longer for the oil to heat up and move around. Thats the cheapest trial error, if that doesn't work I would say its probly your synchro for 3rd gear.

i would lean towards a synchro as well... They make a bottle of trans fluid called synchro mesh (I got mine from a GM mechanic).. and it helped mine by putting a bottle in

yeah sounds like a synchro. it could be your fault or it could be a fabrication/manufacture error. try skipping 3rd gear and just going from higher rpm's in second straight to 4th. none of my gears grind and i skip 3rd sometimes. you should be fine doing that.

In my opinion it's either the synchros or a bent shift fork. Right now I'm leaning towards a bent shift fork, since it only seems to do it in the one gear. If it was your synchros I woulde excpect the problem with other gears besides third.

I'd say syncro's. The cheapest way to determin that would be a bottle of that syncro mesh. See if that helps eliminate it, if not move on to the shift fork.

my car grinded everytime i shifted to 4th gear.. a local tranny shop wanted like 900 dollars to fix it. I just went to a junkyard and bought a used tranny out of a 00 cobra with 24k miles on it for 400 dollars
