Quiet Flowmasters

I just got my new flowmasters on my 99 cobra and man i got to tell ya that they are pretty quiet! i can tell a little diffrence over stock but not a whole hell of a lot. I got the 2.5in cat back with 3in tips with super 44's. I used to have them on my jeep and i think i remember them getting louder as they got broke in. does anyone agree with this or am i going to have to get a X pipe with high flow cats (i live in virginia) for the extra grumble i want?

An off road X-pipe will make it sound right.....

u could take your factory mid pipe off, keep it, get a performance mid pipe, throw it in, then when smog time comes, change em out and put the factory mid pipe back in for the test, go do the test, then put the performance mid pipe back in. ive heard that even a performance mid pipe with at least two high flow cats can pass a smog test as long as the car is running good.

There are no sniffer tests..... you'd get away with just welding an empty case onto the pipe.

Are you on tidewaterracing.com? If so then you'd understand. There has been an on going competition between two black terminators on there for a while. I just recently got into the mix when I picked mine up.

Its pretty easy..... just need a torch on standbuy to help break loose the nuts on the manifolds. just be careful not to break a stud because it then become a PITA.

+1 and make sure the engine and exhaust is cooled down. i tried to put in my new x pipe but i wasnt able to. the nuts on the left side came off pretty easy, but the ones on the right side wouldnt. the auto hobby shop on my base where i was at didnt even have any break ease spray for stuck nuts. how gay is that??? lol

It took me about 3 hours to swap my O/R H in. Most of it was trying to put enough swivels and extensions on to loosen the passenger side manifold nuts. It goes on pretty smooth though without the cats in the way. I put Super 44s on my car with the factory midpipe and it sounded good but was barely louder than stock. You definitely need to replace it to really hear your exhaust. BTW think about going with an H pipe instead of the X. Chambered mufflers like Flows sound better with h pipes.
