Rpms


just thought id give a check to make sure i have stock gears in my car, so i dont waste my time buying them, in fifth gear 80 MPH what RPMs should my car be at, i have a 03 mach 1 5 speed, i beleive they come stock with 3 55s

With the stock tires and stock 3.55 gears you should be turning around 2300-2350 rpm at 80 mph.

You can't check it by speedometer versus tachometer unless your car has had the computer recalibrated for your setup.

The best way to check gears is to jack up the back of the car. Put the car in neutral. Place a mark on the driveshaft and one tire. As you turn the tire, count the number of time the driveshaft goes around. For example, if the driveshaft turns 3 1/4 times for one full turn of the wheel then you have 3.27 gears. It it turns, just over four time then you have 4.10s. Just under is 3.73s. If you have 3.55s then the driveshaft should go around 3 1/2 times for one full rotation of the tire.
