Question

My Buddy Wants An 04 Whats Up With These Mods?

My buddy is looking at a 2004 mustang with the following:

This 1-owner is the ultimate sleeper! Exterior is all stock, and in great condition. Interior is also in great condition. The car has 18600 miles on it, but the motor only has about 2000 miles. Drives great, clutch and short shifter are a perfect match to the motor especially with the 3.73:1 rear gear. Timing is tuned back, so the motor will last longer, and still sounds and behaves incredibly racy. Centrifugal supercharger gives a linear power band straight to redline, without dropping off. The oil has been changed on the new motor already, after the break in period. Needs new tires, I recommend the NT-555RII “Extreme ZR” at least on the rear. Rotors need to be turned but the pads are fine. Other than that it has be well built and maintained; no spared expenses with about $18K invested in the motor and modifications after the $28000 on-the-road dealer cost. The camber is set for handling, not straight line, performance at the moment and the alignment is dead straight. If you plan on drag race it, I would recommend flattening out the camber for more straight line stability. It squats great out of the hole with stock suspension, which I have kept for daily driving comfort. The A/C is extremely cold, even at idle on a hot day. Most of the miles are highway, with quite a few road trips and 2500 of them were cross country to WI and back to FL before S-charger install. The Mach 460 stereo sounds great with 6 disc changer. It has been a non-smoker, with the interior cleaned and leather conditioned regularly. The convertible top works perfect and fits water tight.
2004 Mustang GT Convertible 40th Anniversary Edition
JBM short block (cast iron, 2 bolt main)
289 c.i.d. (281c.i. bored .030)
Forged Pistons, rods & crank shaft (will handle a lot more HP)
8.5:1 compression
Vortec V2 S-trim centrifugal supercharger (10 lbs boost)
K&N filter (true cold air intake)
Patriot Stage II heads, ported/polished
Upgraded stainless steel valves & springs
6200RPM (rough idle) high rev cams
Ford Racing fuel pump
Ford Racing 42lb injectors
NGK iridium spark plugs (No Platinum with boost)
BBK 72mm Throttle body, C&L MAF
BBK long tube ceramic headers 1 1/4” into 2 ˝”
BBK 2 ˝” x-pipe
Flowmaster 40 series mufflers
Superchips computer with custom dyno tune
Billet aluminum oil pump
Center-force dual friction clutch
Aluminum drive shaft
Pro 5.0 short throw shifter
Sub-frame connectors
3.73:1 rear gear with forged posi diff
31 spline (28 spline factory) fully build rear end
Dyno:
475 rwhp @ 6200 rpm (approx. 515 hp @ crank)
425 lb-ft trq @ 4500
(215 rwhp dyno factory motor, 260 hp @ crank per factory specs)
(390 rwhp dyno after supercharger install, approx. 430 hp @ crank)
Capable of:
(550+ rwhp; advance timing, as is, no new parts needed)
(600+ rwhp; 100 octane race fuel)
(750+ rwhp; P51 intake manifold, Vortec After-cooler, & 60-80lb injectors about $3000 more)
Build timeline:
Vortec S-Charger, fuel system, throttle body, gears, chip, & exhaust @ 6000 miles
Motor, heads, cams, headers, clutch, & rear end @ 16500 miles

How long do you think this motor will last with average driving? This is not intended to be used as a daily driver but could it be? Is this a dangerous set up to drive in the rain? How much more maintenace than my lightly moded car does one with this much done to it require? The guy wants 10k but he would have to drive cross country to get it. If possible what kind of gas mileage would it get for the cross ride home? Thanks

Woah! that sounds brutile. As a daily driver, I would personally keep it under 600 lol... when going to the track/racing, however much you want... at 700 hp, if you take care of it, it'll last a little while, dont expect it to last as long as a stock block with minor mods will last... but if you take good care of her, it'll last... but with 600+ HP expect some occasional minor problems and maybe a major problem down the line... thats a lot of HP

1. as long as your tune is good it will last a long time.
2. yes it could be used as a DD
3. with the current tires on it yes
4. more but not much
5. for 10k I would buy it pending a good inspection by a speed shop
6 I have no idea what your mpg would be.. that depends on your foot.

It should last just as long as any car. Just maintain it like you should and dont beat the shit out of it everytime you get in it and there should be no issues.

The car should also have no trouble with longer trips as well.

As far as added maintenace, there isnt really much than any other car. I say use some synthetic in what you can but thats it. Also after 4 maybe 5 years you might have to send the S-charger out for a rebuild but that could even be longer than 4 to 5 years.

As far as MPG.........if you are worried about that then dont get a modded car, honestly especially one like that. You know it is going to be on the lower side so why even ask.

The car would be just fine as a D.D. and I see no reason not to pick it up if he has all receipts and it is as clean and smooth running as he states.

I don't know about you guys but I don't think someone with complete records and receipts would be selling that car for 10k unless there is something seriously wrong with it and he doesn't want to deal with it anymore. Most 04 GT's are going for anywhere from 7-14k I've never seen even just a S/C'd GT go for less than 10k let alone a fully built S/C'd 04! KBB for a 40th ann. vert GT is over 10k in fair condition. looks like a scam to me. If he has all records and an inspection goes well swoop that shit up for sure! like yesterday! but I bet big money there is something going on there.
