Exhaust Cut Outs

I was just wondering what's involved with getting cut outs. Could a shop make them or would you need to buy some?

Either. You can get them pretty cheap from jegs or summit. Summit has them for $25 a piece, I am not sure of the prices at your local muffler shop but I don't think they could give you what you are getting from summit for the same price. Summit Exhaust Cutouts: SUM-670136 - summitracing.com

Also, would they affect the flow at all?

In the higher RPMs you would gain some HP, but it will hurt ur low end tq, dont worry, u'll gain it back in the high rpms tho... thats where they're at when racing anyways haha.

Hell yeah. Just to tell you tho, open headers is going to be FUCKIN loud, it will be about 123or so db... and just to tell you how loud that is, a nascar is about 125db and you can hear those for about 3 miles away...

Just dont be prepared to sneak home to aviod detection from wife/gf/parents, cuz on a perfectly quiet night, they'll hear you comin from 2-3miles haha.

If you are going to put them in, and you are looking for the best spot, put them right after the x in the mid pipe, this will help with scavaging and also you will loose less low end and still get the nice high end gains. It is definatly loud, I run open x and the strip and even with the helmet on it sounds like a big block with open headers. I have a video of it if you want an idea of how it would sound.

Well a 4v 4.6L is going to sound a hell of a lot better than a 2v with open headers...

I'd like to hear that video Doc. I wouldn't keep them uncorked all the time. Just at the strip or for having some fun.

im going to put them on just for giggles when i do my swap. then we will see the gains I get at the track, but I like the idea of right off the header myself!

You will actually lose HP with un restricted exhaust flow there will be no back presure and you can mess up a valve this way. And to take them off you have to get under the car and take the bolts out. But there is some on summit that you can operate by a switch that you mount in your car.

yea, but burning a valve wont happen if I only do it at the track, and the switch operated ones are like 600 bucks! Maybe ill do it after the X pipe, but then i have a gas tank to watch out for. I still like the idea of them at the collector of my hooker headers!
