Throttle Body
Hey guys. I'm new to this site but had a few questions about Throttle Bodies. I don't know a ton about cars but I'm trying to learn. I own a 2004 GT and just installed a BBK Intake on it last weekend and i'm looking for another inexpensive upgrade I can do myself. Is a throttle body a good bet?
I was researching the different sizes I presume? I saw 55mm 65mm 70 75 etc. Is this how much air is pulled in? I'm looking to spend between $200-300 on it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks |

That is the opening size in the TB not the cfm rating. Larger TB's are always a good upgrade, I am sure some of the gt guys will post up and tell you the biggest you should run. If you want some other mods, look into underdrive pullies, bigger mass air meter housings, intake plenum(the part that your throttle body bolts to.),or maybe a mid pipe and cat back exhaust. Just to name a couple. If you want bang for your buck IMO a programmer is a good choice.

+1 on a programmer. It's a little over 300 for the quality ones. Then gears because you have the capability to re-calibrate your speedo.
As far as throttle bodies go, 65mm or 70mm is perfect. Neither is too small nor too bigm and won't hurt you one bit. I bought a 70mm just in case I get a large sum of money and decide to supercharge!! ps-Different people go different routes, I chose full exhaust first because I wanted the sound more than anything.

Steeda underdrive Pulleys are a pretty cheap and easy mod. You won't really see much gain, but it will save you gas and put less strain on some of your engine parts.

stock t/b is 65mm. recommended t/b's: 70mm for most n/a, 75mm for a built or a power adder car. a p&p'd upper plenum or aftermarket will also be a good mod to go with. tuning will help, the more you have done the more it will do. udp's a good, but dont expect a huge gain from them alone. do you have any exhaust work done?

Nope no Exhaust yet. I'm still trying to figure out which exhaust I want. I want a choppy sound.

Choppy? you mean chambered like a flowmaster, or choppy and poppy like glass packs of old

I think it's an X Pipe but i'm just looking for something loud that sounds good when I idle and when I'm accelerating.

Get an off road x-pipe, that will dramaticly increase sound... All the time. In a good way though.

My suggestion would be, if your state allows it, MAC long tube headers/Prochamber mid pipes/Flowmaster 40. Nice rumbly low sound without being obnoxious or getting to much attention from 5-0. You should see a 15 - 20 hp gain. Accufab plenum and 75mm throttle body are my next purchases since I have the exhaust setup and can let the air out I need to let the air in!
