Cobra Question!
I have a 2002 gt right now, im thinking of getting a 99 cobra convertible, with 4.10's and flowmasters. I know cobras are faster but how much faster should i expect the cobra to be. I have never drove a cobra. and how can i check if it was fixed for the recall. Thanks

welcome to the forums.
there will be a blue dot on the right head of the Cobra if it was fixed. and yes the cobra is faster and a much better platform.

The Cobra will be a better performing car. The weak point will be the IRS if ya plan to go straight.

i got a 99 cobra coupe a few months ago and i dont regret it a bit. the irs does have its down falls BUT the car makes up for it. there are up grades you can do for under a grand and the irs will really hook up with almost no wheel hop.

The Cobra is most definitely faster. On average they are a little over half a second quicker stock for stock over the normal GT.
Don't be surprised though if your GT feels quicker. Your going from a solid axle car with 4.10s to basically the same car but a little bit heavier, IRS, and larger (numerically smaller) gears.

you can buy an IRS brace from billetflow for $190 to drastically reduce the chance of wheel hop...
my brother just bought a 99 cobra with a broken half shaft (aftermath of wheel hop)... we fixed it and replaced the stock gears with 4.10's and its a peppy car for sure! Its really a weird feeling when going from my GT to his car and not shifting til 7K RPMS!!

There is a big plus side to the IRS, coming from one who went from solid to IRS, the cobra handles better with the Independant rear suspension! To fix the wheel hop, an IRS brace will not do ANYTHING to fix it, all that does is keep you from blowing out the back side of your differential when your car wheel hops. To fix wheel hop the best thing is to get MM IRS and differential bushings. That will reduce wheel hop big time. Also DR's will help you out a lot as well!
