First Mod...

I have a 2002 stock GT. I want to do my first mod. I am torn between the shaker scoop and an exhaust system. One thing I am unsure of is what is the difference between cat-backs & x-pipes? If I am going to do the catback, should I do the xpipe at the same time? If I'm going that far, should I put headers on too? I'd like it louder, but don't think I'd get much performance gain out of just xpipes and catbacks. Any recommendations for my first mod?

Thanks!

You'd get more performance gains out of full exhaust than you would out of a shaker scoop. As far as first mods go, I would get new gears, I am a big fan of 4.30s but others will say go with 4.10s, depending on what you want to do down the road with other power adders.

Eventually I want to go with the shaker scoop (I like the bad-a$$ look) and a full exhaust - I want to keep it street legal, but it's not for everyday driving. I also want it LOUD.(!) Any recommendations for that? I see that there are some options as far as Steeda MAC & Magnaflow...

Thanks again...

the x- or h-pipe comes before the catback. go with gears and then exhaust!

Ok, ok. As much as I want to hear it roar, I'll get new gears first (then exhaust, then scoop).

What should I consider as far as the gears go? Is it a good idea to do bearings at the same time?

Depends on the miles on the bearings. If it was a very low miles car <20,000 you may be able to get by with pressing the bearings off and reusing them. The general run of thumb is go ahead and replace them while you are in there since bearings are much cheaper than the labor to replace them again if they go bad. Look for an install kit on ebay and you can get them for a decent price.

if you plan on going with forced indution later on go with a 3.73. if your an auto, no matter what go with a 4.10 but maneul and forced induction=3.73. if your gonna stay n/a just stick some 4.10 and youll be really happy!

as far as exhaust goes, bassani makes a great off road xpipe, but if you want to stay street legal go with the high flow cats and 1 chamber flowmasters, it'll shake windows when you ride by

Go with longtube headers then let the rest of the exhaust fall into place.
I am very happy with my setup.

SLP loudmouth 2 exhaust is what you need.

Throw on some 3.73s and a shaker scoop and youll be set for life
