X Pipe Sound

so i hope this isnt too dumb a question.. but will the x pipe dramatically alter the sound of my car? i thought that the sound came from the mufflers... I want to get a magnapack catback exhaust.. and as far as x pipes go im still undecided.. i like the idea of a magnaflow tru x x pipe since i heard they r nice and it will b the same brand... Ive also heard some mac prochambers that were sick too..and the other brand it pypes since ive heard some nice ones and they are real cheap..I guess this is turning more into what you guys thing the best midpipe would be

mac prochamber sounds good, but i also like the deep sound of a Mac o/r H pipe.

H pipe (which is whats on there stock) = deep, throaty, low note
X Pipe = a raspy, throaty sound (Ive heard that these sound amazing at WOT)
Prochamber = from what I cant tell its the best of both world. a perfect mix of the two

i had the tru-x on my car. i went with a prochamber when i installed long tubes. each mid pipe has a sound of their own, i havent heard any x that sounds anything like the tru-x. i have an exhaust clip in the exhaust section under member sound clips.

^^ wait so is it your car on youtube with the magnapack and prochambers under s2ks? if so your video on youtube has been the reason ive been so unsure on midpipes.. That vid sounds so sick and so does your clip on here. In your opinion which midpipe sounded/sounds better to you?

yeah, thats me. i love the tru-x, but it a very different sound than any other. it has a ring to it that is hard to explain. it is the loudest mid pipe i have ever heard. if you have a cat back that is already loud, the tru-x will make it louder. i love my prochamber as well, i personally like it better. it has the best of both worlds; x and h. its hard to compare since i put long tubes on when i did the prochamber. the tru-x will make it louder inside the car too.

did you switch midpipes because you just wanted to change or becasue the tru-x xpipes werent compatable with mac LT headers? I got a quick off topic question i have an 04 gt auto and some LT headers say they are for manuals only.. is this true for all LT headers? and if i get the tru-x xpipes do you know if bbk shorty headers will fit and work with my auto? (they are all i can afford lol)

i went to lt's, and didnt want to mess with "modifying it" to make it work. it is a hell of a lot easier to just get a mid pipe that goes to the headers. the tru-x will fit an auto, i will fine out soon how well it does. a friend of mine has an auto mach that we are going to try it out on. right now he has the mac x-pipe, and just want to see what it sounds like with the tru-x. any mid pipe that goes to a stock exhaust manifold will go to shorties. mac lt's will clear auto's, but not all lt's will.

the tru-x is the highest prcied mid pipe that i know of on the market for the mustangs. i personally love magnaflow and the packs also. if i were to recommend any other cat back they woule be, stingers, bassani, and mac. the macs sound really good and are very affordable.

Do you have the MAC catback as well? I know you have the LT's and Prochamber.

Did you go with the Ceramic MAC's?

Did you install them yourself? How did that go?

Mid pipes dramatiacally change the sound of a catback.

If you even add a midpipe to the stock catback it would sound good.

My top three reccomendations would be this (in no order all equal):
>MAC O/R Prochamber W/ Magnapack Catback
>Pypes O/R X pipe W/ Bassani SS Catback
>MAC O/R H pipe W/ Flowmaster 44 Catback

i have magnapack catback, and they are hts coated. my buddy (doc8224) is plan on getting the pro dumps right after christmas. we talked about bolting them up to my car just to see how they sound. every mustang 2v or 4v has sounded great with the mac's. me and doc installed them, they werent too bad. more frustarting than anything else.

Soundwise,
  • H-pipe = Musclecar
  • X-pipe = NASCAR
Word on the street is that the H-pipe produces slightly more low-end torque, and that the X-pipe favours the top-end; however most all the reputable X vs. H tests I've seen have been statistical dead heats with neither one dramatically outperforming the other...

changing the mid pipe regardless which you go with will make your car drastically louder and going o/r or catted makes a difference too. everyone says go to youtube and listen to the sound but keep in mind you can only get an idea of what it will sound like which in most cases is good enough.
