Heads vs Eaton Supercharger

Before i buy the after market parts for my car i want to know what you guys think would be better. I dont want to mess with the internals so thats why im thinking of the eaton supercharger, but would a good set of heads be better. I know theirs different kinds of heads but i dont really know of any for a cobra. Doest the eaton just bolt on the the cobra's engine or do i need some sort of adapter.

all heads are ford heads, there are no aftermarket company producing their own cast yet. head work is a real good investment, it really depends on what your goal is. an eaton will bolt right up as long as you have all the stuff. the lower manifold is about the hardest thing to get without going to the stealership.

well with heads, cams, and a ported intake manifold, you can make some decent power on a NA 4.6DOHC. around 400RWHP.

i would buy revised feb. 05 heads, port them, and throw the FR500 valvetrain package on there, along with a ported intake, and full exhaust.

only problem is it gets expensive.

the eaton is a good option, but on a 99, it turns it into a ticking time bomb. those rods in there are really weak, and do not like boost.

i would personally pull the motor apart, and spend that $$ in the bottom end. keep the stock crank, get some 03/04 cobra rods, they can be had used for about 300 or so. and go .020 over, and run some CP pistons, and you have yourself a GREAT bottom end. assemble it back with some ARP studs, and the stock heads, and all, and when you get the $$, its ready for a blower.

where do you get all your info??? the powder rods can handle boost. you dont have to have a terminator rotating assembly to boost. you have to limit how much power you run thru the motor. read the topic! he does not want to mess with the bottom end.

they typically make about 460-480RWHP on the stock 8PSI, with just exhaust, and stuff.

it will cost you about 3-4K to do it completely though, and that is no installation. parts are pretty easy to get now, with all the 03/04 guys going turbo.

i agree ford could of done better with the build on these cars, but they are plenty capable of making power. these motors will hold up to more than what most people will throw at them.

throw a heaton on that thing. you can probably find one on ebay with <1000 miles on it for cheap.

you can pick up the blower itself for $400 or so. but you need a TON more stuff, including the following, and more:

eaton
throttle body
plenum
intercooler
lower intake manifold
all the IC lines
heat exchanger
intercooler pump
bunch of hoses
cross over tube
03/04 EGR, or EGR delete (wont pass emmisions)
03/04 front engine cover
pulley bridge assembly
lower pulley cage
03/04 altenator
03/04 altenator bracket
injectors
fuel system

and a BUNCH of other stuff. and at the end of the day, you have a inneficient roots style blower that blows 8PSI of hot air.

you can easily spend a few more bucks, or less if buy used, and get a vortech, or procharger, which is 20X better of a blower, and the kit is MADE for your car. whole lot less labor, no finding parts. and about the same price.

do the centrifugal.

just get a blower made for your car. why is that so hard. why does everyone think they can just slap a eaton on there car cause its a 4v. not to mention the eaton sucks. sorry to be a dick but if it was that easy everyone would have a eaton on there car since there are so many cheap ones for sale on ebay.

the eaton is made for his motor. it is a direct bolt on. it is an easoy swap. he can have the eaton and everything to install it for a around 3-4k, depending on where he gets all his stuff. his car and the terminator are both c-head cars. sorry to be a dick, but it is that easy to put an eaton on his car.

im sorry, but if the eaton was a "direct bolt on" then you would not have to change so much stuff. how is it made for his car? it, and a set of heads, and all would it be a direct swap for your car too?

that is too much of a open ended comment.

a VORTECH, or PROCHARGER, or PAXTON kit for a 99-01 cobra is a DIRECT BOLT ON for his car, a direct bolt on, and a "swap" are not the same thing.

how many eatons have you installed on 99-01 cobra's?

yes, for 3-4K he can have all the stuff to install it on his car, but then he has a eaton that blows 8PSI of hot air. he can make much more power, and do it safer with a centri, with the same boost level. and is just a little more. the eaton SUCKS.

well if he would want to go to a whipple or kb, it wold involve installing the same stuff as the eaton. and they are concidered a "bolt in kit", got tell kenne bell and whipple they are descibing thier kit wrong! you install the same stuff as the aftermarket using factory parts, but it is a swap and not a bolt it??? tell me genius, how the fuck you come up with that? i have seen a lot of 99-01 cobras with the eatons and a few machs with it. the eaton is an entry level sc. comparable to like the p1sc, novi 1000, the older smaller kb's, etc.

8psi of hot air??? not really, the air is not hot at 8psi. it is not the most effcient delivery, but it is not hot! safer? if it was not safe, there would not be any way that ford would of gave any warranty from the factory. it is when you start pushing a head unit past their VE, that starts to get really hard on the air. the eatons efficientcy isnt the greatest, but does a decent job. for those that just want the little extra, it is a great easy way to get what they want. hell, the heat exchangers stock do a very well job and will effciently cool a pretty high psi and volume.

you want to call me out and go head to head with general or boost knowledge, step on up! you ask me in another topic how you call people out, you think you can come in here and just tell everyone how it is. no one knows everything, and everyone has their own opinion.

putting an eaton is just idiotic, when u can put something on bigger for a bit more money and LESS time waiting to find individual parts at low costs. lets not forget we are also talking about a NEW procharger/centri kit compared to a used eaton scavenger hunt. dont mind it being used? fine thats when u get a used centri.

99blkcobra im not trying to be rude if i was i apologize

if you want to spend 3-4 grand piecing together a shitty swap go right ahead. why do you think cobra owners get rid of that blower so quick. its not just as easy as bolting on the eaton, which is what it sounded like he was thinking. but its your money do what you want with it
