You'll love the sound of Flowmasters, although it'd be much louder with an aftermarket mid-pipe (with high flow cats to pass emissions).

no question is a dumb question. despite what my cpt 172 instructor says...

the cats modify the exhaust air ( to change carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide - i think ). that restricts the air flow. with no cats, the exhaust moves through the tubes faster. but that also kills emissions tests.

I know what they do and everything but i've heard a couple of people say that newer cars need backpressure and removing them will decrease backperessure and make the car run not so well. i allways thought you want the lowest restricion exhaust possible whos right?

im not sure if im correct, so if i am not, please correct me...

the exhaust is supposed to be removed from the engine. it aint supposed to stay in the engine. thats what the 'ex' means - "out". backpressure kills any hopes of a free-flowing exhaust (why offroad pipes are popular, but they do not treat the exhaust as catted pipes do), which robs the engine of some spare horsepower, since it has to use some of the generated horsepower to push against the backpressure to clear the cylinders. with a more free-flowing exhaust, there is no backpressure, allowing the engine to transfer just that much more hp and tq to the powertrain. which is good. but it isnt "emissions legal" ... and all that .. stuff

this is just from a "naturally" aspirated point of view, and it is just my thoughts on the subject, so i could very well be wrong.

depends on if you have to have emissions where you live. Though it is a $10,000 fine if the cops want to be dicks about it.

allowing for more flow increases horsepower but decreases a little bit of torque. you might notice a liiiiitle change in your take off with the out cats but u'll get allllll that lost torque back when ur RPMs getta little higher...in other words...with a "free flowing" exauhst you'll get good high end results on the track but u might get a little lag on ur take off...not a whole lot...so dont be discouraged if you got completely off-road...a stock stang comes with 4 cats...take those for off for a pair of hi-flos and i'll think you'll be happy! (of course with anything, i could be completely wrong and sound like a jack ass) check it out for yourself.

Hey guys, i just got my alarm installed at ford and had the flowmaster 40 series mufflers installed at a local shop. It sounds amazing!!! Has a nice rumble to it. Besides having a slight rattle on the right muffler, it only happens oncein a while, everything seems so be in order.

No they wont affect your warranty and it wont hurt emissions either. Only worry about emissions if you play around with your catalitic converters.
