Remote Auto Start Kits

Does anyone have any experience with the Remote Auto Start kits. Are there any issues with a 5 speed rather than an automatic? Can anyone recommend a specific kit that they were happy with? Any imput would be appreciated.

My friend has a manual camaro 5.7 and he has remote start on his. So your manual should be able to do it, just because its on a mustang vs camaro shouldnt matter.

I believe that would be a poor choice with a stang of any type. I imagine the anti-thieft would have to be de-activated because of the missing computer chip key to turn it off so that the engine could crank. Also the clutch switch needs to be de-activated to allow manual tranny stangs to turn over as well. All this just to start your stang seconds before you get in? Where's the fun in that =D

Here's the fun for me...I'm old, my front door to my house is on the second story. If I want to warm the motor up (More critical with F/I engines) before driving my car, it would appear that it would be quite "The shit" for me to just press a button from the house and continue on with whatever I'm already doing... We pay for conveniences all the time, it's just how far do you want to go? Like, let's saaaay, driving somewhere in your Stang instead of walking. Here, check this conveniece out...I can open my garage door from inside this house. Cool, huh?

you have to bypass the chip in the key to install it, meaning, the car could be stolen very very easily, and you'd have to bypass the clutch start switch, meaning first time you fuck up and leave it in gear your gettin a new front end. its a bad idea with any car and a chipped key, and its a bad idea with any stick car, its a terrible idea for a car with both.

Well I don't drink beer or smoke pot anymore, so I think I can remember to park my car in neutral. My driveway is a 110 feet up a hill from the street. You'd be out of gas by the time you walked to the top to steal it...lol.

I don't know about it being illegal. But remote start kits are usually part of a new alarm system. My buddies will not actually go anywhere unless you have the key in and turned to on. If you touch the clutch or break is pressed it turns off. It's really a better system than the stock one, plus you can remote start and unlock/lock from much farther away.

dude you can put a remote start in your car. but have somebody who knows what they are doing put it in. my buddy owns a shop and i see cars come in all the time that people try to doing it and f**king it up, not saying you would but for the price of it. it is not worth the time to do it yourself.

On the install note. My buddies have all had them done by professionals. The professionals happen to by my buddies too. But none the less, they are professionals. The kits are really complicated some times, and even the professionals have trouble some times.

well you should be good than, even if you left it in gear on a hill it aint goin anywhere haha.

both statements are false, it is legal, why wouldn't it be?
if left in gear with auto it wouldn't start, but manual will. its just how any car is built, there is no sensor telling the car, its in gear, thats why there is a switch under the clutch. there are no internal sensors on manual transmissions or anywhere in the shifter assembly. auto has sensors in the assembly, but not manual, so a manual will start. i actually know someone who has remote start with a manual trans...was standing in front of the car and started it and hit himself with his own car. i laughed my ass off when i heard it too.

Okay, I have a dug a little deeper into this issue. Ford sells a factory remote start kit for 2006-2008 Mustangs that lists for $268. I can get it for $209 from my local dealer. The kit also states for Automatic transmssion cars only. After talking to one of the Ford techs, he tells me that this kit could be installed on my 04 GT/5 speed Mustang. He said they wouldn't do it, but it is very doable. I do all of my own work and I am confident that I could install this thing. Hmmm...Still pondering...

I have a remote start on all my auto cars, very nice convience to have for many reasons. but I would not put one on a manual trans car.one reason is I don't like to rely on emerg brake alone for parking. and when you have a remote start you will use way more than just in the a.m.,like coming out of store etc.and it takes only one brain fart to leave it in gear(like from habit)

Well if you figure out how to wire it up let me know I have a viper alarm system with the auto start freature available but they wouldn't install that freature on a manual car so I was gonna attempt it myself but don't know a lot about that stuff...

they dont put them on manuals for the fact of people will leave the car in gear and the car will start cranking. looks funny when it happens though. guy at the local car audio shop put one on his tracker and rammed into his a customers car with it.
