Question

Best Cold Air Intake for 2001 Ford Mustang GT?

Heya.

I have a 2001 Ford Mustang GT (coupe convertible if that matters). I just got it about a week ago (crashed my Pontiac Grand Am) and noticed that there are a lot more options for aftermarket performance parts for the Mustang.

My car has 50,000 miles on it and already has a K&N Cold Air Intake and an exhaust system (I am not sure what kind of exhaust system yet though!). I'd like to make sure my car has the best performance parts so far so I can continue modifying it without worrying about upgrading later.

I'm on AutoAnything.com right now looking at CAI systems for 2001 Ford Mustang GT (click). My friend told me the K&N Typhoon series is the best CAI system out there, but the estimated HP gain on the website is less than the estimated HP gain for the K&N CAI System (Fuel Injection Performance Kit).

My question is: which is the best CAI system on the market for the 2001 Ford Mustang GT? I don't want to kill my gas mileage but I do want the best HP gain...any recommendations?

Thank you so much in advance for your replies. I've looked at the stickies and I just want to know which one is the best, if possible.

It's great to be here.

welcome to the sight. it is all in opinion. almost everyone will say jlt. i personally think they are over rated. i recommend c&l. the jlt, k&n, s&b, c&l are the ones i highly recommend. the others tend to be steel and have some heat soak issues. the fipkit is ok, but not all that great.

What makes JLT Cold Air Intake System "the best" for the Ford Mustang?

Is there any difference with its design or material that makes it better? Please do let me know...I think I have a K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit CAI System installed on my Ford Mustang (will get some pics of it soon). Just want to see if I should keep what I have or if it's worth getting the JLT CAI.

By the way, thanks everyone for your replies.

if its only the fipkit that replaces the maf foward, its ok but definatly not the best. its all in turbulence, and heat. stock and steel intakes have heat soak issues, and that what makes the difference. jlt, k&n, s&b, are non metallic and have little heat soak. c&l is aluminum and i think coated to eliminante the heat soak. if you want looks of best performance then get a full kit. if you just want a little extra, the fipkit will be fine.

you would be very suprised, the FIPK makes almost as much power as a JLT even with the stock tube. its definently the second best, only to JLT though.

JLT CAI FTW!!!!!!!! He can paint it the same color as your car.

*********Please Note**********
Cover sharp edge of the fender opening with durable tape for not to scratch the paint of the intake!

that's why you get a length of fuel line with the CAI. it goes around the edge of the apron that the CAI goes through into the fenderwell...

in some cases the fipkit did well, i have seen it not do so hot on some cars. there are a few cars that the stock inlet tube does fine, and for the most part is all you ever need. i wouldnt go as far as saying its second best, but it will get the job done.
