Aluminum 4.6


i have a 02 gt. i just got a aluminum 4.6 out of a mark VIII. will it work in my gt? what do i need to look for? also how can i tell if it a w or r block? i plan to use bottom end only.

what year Mark VIII is it? the 93- 98 Mark VIII's had the same aluminum block as the 96- 98 Cobra's...
the block should work fine if you plan on building it for your Mustang.

All aluminum blocks from the lincolns were windsor castings, 93-95 also had less bolts on the front and rear main caps. You will also need a timing cover from a 93-95 T bird, one of the bolts on the block will not align properly. A few guys just leave it out or even shallow tap the block to get the bolt in. You wil find that they have 9.8cc dished pistons which will raise the compression quite a bit when used with 2 valve heads. You will also have to drill a water bypass hose on the deck of the block. Locating the hole with a headgasket, then drill away.

i'm not really sure what year it is i pretty sure it like a 97 or 98. i plan to pull it apart tomorrow and see what i got. if its the same as a cobra engine what would it have in it. is the coponents forged?

the block was the same as the 96-98 Cobra's, not the internals. i'm pretty sure they're not forged...
