The Challenger is no longer a concept. It will hit the showroom 2/08. They were planning to have at least 2 platforms, possibly 3 including a 7.1 HEMI drag pack that will likely be in the $60k range, but now they said that they will stick with the 6.1L SRT8 Hemi, the base will start at $41K. As far as the Camaro, it will still remain competitive $$$'wise at around $20K (4.0 V6 with 250HP) and it will sure be a sharp looking car in 09. I like em' both! Personally, I think that the camaro will be the fastest, once again with the optional LS6 motor in it, if they put it on, otherwise it will be the 400 or 450 LS2 in the main V8 trim with the possibility of a SS with the 6.0 LS6 from the-then-old Z06. Remember, the Z06 is coming out of production (rumors from Chevy) and the ZR-1 (LS9 supercharged with 600+ HP) is coming in mid 08... I think Chevy might be bringing those rumors out to encourage people to buy more Z06 before they "disappear" or get the new ZR-1 as an only option. Heck, they're even talking about a 2009 Trans Am!

Why would Chevy bother with an LS6 (405 HP @ 6000 rpm & 400 TQ @ 4800 rpm) when the LS2 (400 HP @ 6000 rpm & 400 TQ @ 4400 rpm) has almost the exact same output??? My guess is Chevy will use the LS3 (430 HP @ 5900 rpm & 424 TQ @ 4600 rpm or 436 HP @ 5900 rpm & 428 TQ @ 4600 rpm) with an optional LS7 (505HP @ 6300 rpm & 470TQ @ 4800 rpm) and maybe even an LS9 option (620 HP @ ~6000 rpm & 595 TQ @ 4000 rpm)!!!

I HIGHLY doubt theyd ever put the LS9 or LS7 into a Camaro. Chevy doesnt want anything else in their selection to be able to beat a Corvette

As for the new 'Z06' (its ben rumored to be called the Stingray and bringing the old stingray name back) its going to be the LS9 from what I hear. Its supposed to be made primarily of carbon fiber and 0-60 times of roughly around 3 seconds flat

Chevy already ruled out the name 'stingray' for the new high performance Vette. It will be the ZR-1. As for the engine options, you're right, I doubt Chevy would put the LS9 in a Maro, but I can see the LS7 being reasonable. The Camaro is supposed to be around 3900 lbs, where as the LS3 Vette is 3217 lbs. 3900/505 = 7.723 lbs/HP and 3217/436 = 7.378 lbs/HP. The LS3 Vette still maintains its weight to power ratio advantage and will also be much more aerodynamic.

SRT8 FTW!

once they get through that thick ass Daimler computer then these things will be beasts

especially when the t56 version comes out the following year along with the R/T version at 32k for an R/T and it running mid 13's it will do alot better in the aftermarket than the srt8

The price for the Challenger should be right around 40 Grand. Im not sure if that is for the R/T Model or the SRT model though.

In terms of power? most likely. In terms of looks? maybe. Ford needs to start making more powerful engines. I hate that my 4.6 v8 makes less hp than a ricers 3.5 v6 stock. In Auto Week about 3 weeks ago it showed the new Alfa Romeo 8C. It has a 4.7 v8 pushing 450 hp i think, so why cant ford make an engine like that? Its obviously plausable if chevy has had the ls2 making almost that much power for years. Also IMO I hate the look of the new mustangs (05+). I like the special editions like the cobras, but with the standard stangs i only like the all black gt's. Ford needs to scrap the look of the new stangs and go back to the new edge look IMO because the camaro and challenger look amazing. It will be tough to compete in looks or power.

the zr1 is the " blue devil" they spoke of for the past two years. they decided to bring back the Zr1 NAME.

and i doubt the camaro will have a ls9. from what ive heard the camaro will come with a 400hp ls2 which i think is the 6.0 and i havent heard anything of a SS model but i wouldnt put it past them. and ive heard no rumors of the trans am at all. ive seen concepts but never heard gm talk about it. I do know this, chevy dealers have posters up of the camaro so they are definatly coming out soon. i thought they said fall of 08 but i could be wrong

i agree, the 05+ stangs look like crap. no offence anyone. please.

but they just didnt give the effort that gm did with the new camaro. on the other hand ive always prefered the f body camaro / trans am over the mustangs body anyday. now a mustang with a saleen kit or something.. those look sweet. ill give them that . but stock, geez mustangs sit up so high. idk its like they are tryin to make it a family car to an extent where as the camaro and trans am have tiny backseats for the occasional passanger and they keep the performance look through out the car as if it was a two seater. i love that. and bucket seats rule. haha

I would absolutely LOVE the idea if Ford were to make a V8 under a 5.0L that puts out more than 400bhp stock... if europe can do it, america can do it too!

The reason i'd prefer it to be 5.0 or smaller is cuz u'll lose so much sound quality due to the larger displacement. Have you ever heard a 350 that sounds good? probably not, its just extremely loud with on exhaust tone.

the 4.6 and 5.0 sound amazing! more the 4.6 though... the smaller dispacement and making it a v8 makes for some killer tones.

I'm sure everyone here does the exact thing i do... when you hear a rumble u listen for like 2 seconds and ur able to tell if its a mustang or any other v8. No matter what exhaust you put on, they all have that unique tone.

i can hear exhaust and tell if its a camaro or a trans am. having owned both i know the tones pretty well.

also can hear a mustang and KNOW its a mustang of some sort. most of the 5.0 sound like drag cars haha. and the 4.6 sound sexy

How can you tell the difference b/t a trans am and a maro? isnt the WS6 and the LS1 the exact same engine?

i always thought the 5.0's sound like the sound is being amplified through a tin can, do you kinda kno what i mean... it sounds good but a 5.0 stang sounds very unique, unique like the 4.6's have that low growl until about 3000rpm when they just scream!
